Several methods have been discussed in past years. You might check out the '15 & '16 threads, although you'll have to wade through a lot to find what you're looking for. My preferred method is to suggest that my wife might like to take a long wkend to see her best friend/go to a spa/ see X's new baby/see the great [insert favorite hobby convention or exhibit in a great city here], either that wkend (if u dont have kids) or some other wkend (if you do).
Stick with it: At this point, homecoming weekend is an accepted part of our annual calendar, no quid pro quo needed*
*To all the wise guys who might be tempted to point out all the ways in which the scales are adjusted, just shut up and allow me my delusions.
Makes me all the more grateful that I would be far more likely to miss a Homecoming, due to whatever adversity, than she would.

At this point I'm mostly worried about being covered by medical insurance when my wife strains her eyes from the intense eyeroll she will give me.
Apsen and Red Rocks were already pitched as a 'quick get away', and I have the kids saying "thank you Cooley" before each meal. She calls that 'ridiculous', I call it 'good parenting'.

After the first year, it gets easier. The first year conversation typically starts with "You're going where?" The second year is more along the lines of "Again? (heavy sigh)". The third year becomes "I may come along this time." Haven't figured out quite how to handle that one yet.

I just bring mine along. She went from being "able to stomach DBT" to being a pretty big fan of the band after 30+ shows. I just kept dragging her along (and she's a great designated driver ).

Yeah, I know it always says that...and I always see a kid or too. In fact, I feel like I've watched one of them grow up right before my eyes at HC every year. I bought the tix, will probably call the 40 Watt and explain the situation as we get closer.

My wife comes to shows where she can get a seat, e.g., Georgia Theatre and the Tabernacle. Although she's going to miss November 19th because she's having a knee replacement on the 17th. Nevertheless, me and our three daughters will all be there! Priorities, you know
My wife came with me on my first year and attended part of one show. DBT isn't really her thing, but she did say she liked them better live than studio. I think her going with me that year took the mystery of "what the hell is he out there doing." She now has no interest in going to Homecoming and we've both kinda figured she has her things that work better without me around and I have my things that work better without her around.
I'm in for Friday/Saturday, my 5th homecoming. The girlfriend tried it out last time and liked it, but not enough to come back this time. She's going to the Tabernacle show though, so it may be a seats vs. no seats issue as someone above mentioned.
