Speaking as a charter subscriber, that is not the best piece of writing I've seen in the magazine.

Agreed. Sort of paint-by-numbers. "Neil Young," "Lynyrd Skynyrd," "honky-tonk." Woeful, rueful, mournful, scornful. And then there's the bit about Hood's "willingness."

How about this gem:
One big reason for their continuing vitality has been Patterson Hood's willingness in recent years to share singing and songwriting duties on a more equal basis with fellow DBT founder Mike Cooley.
Can you just picture the conversation where Patterson told Cooley that he's willing to let him have some more songs on the record?

You haven't heard about the uphill battle for Cooley-rights since he fought tooth and nail for the inclusion of "Panties in Your Purse" on Gangstabilly?

I heard rumors that "Surrender Under Protest" was not really about a flag at all, but a thinly veiled victory dance pointed at Mr. Hood? Shit shots count...

Seems strange, Pitchfork has given good reviews to nearly every thing DBT has ever done. Wonder what the story is here.

"a woeful twang in his voice that lends itself to rueful lamentation"

I'm guessing that this writer was awfully pleased with himself for writing this line. My response? "Whatchoo talkin' about Willis?"

Wow. So, if those speculations as to why this album has not yet been reviewed by Pitchfork

On their own webpage

"Pitchfork is the most trusted voice in music."

As in print publications? Not that I'm aware of. As you can see from his site, he's also on social media.

Because the way this kid looks affects what he has to say about American Band. Bet you were hell on the grade school playground.

the Paste article refers to SRO as the band's debut album

Everyone knows the first two records don't count. Too country. And really, hasn't it all been downhill since SRO? So they've got a point, right?

I enjoy watching Joshua Kirk. The kid has great taste in music. He is fun to watch. The kid has guts to get out there on YouTube and make himself a target for the mean people that lurk across the Internet.

Mr. Goat (Philip). You're new here and it seems that you have not picked up on the 3DD gestalt so let me take a moment to enlighten you. We are all about community and acceptance. Polite, intelligent discussions of different opinions is the norm. We do like to have fun and a fair amount of good natured ribbing is evident (and encouraged in the case of Clams). Comments relating to someone's race, religion, sexual orientation and physical appearance are not tolerated. As I'm sure you can tell from the responses, your comment was/is offensive. Please keep our community standards in mind when posting in the future
