Do you think this is the only time DBT will open for an astronaut?
Re: DBT to play at Democratic National Convention
I’ve probably seen the truckers 5 or 6 times at the TLA but never like this: A packed house of hard partying 20-something DC political types dressed for the convention in suits and ties and the women in dresses and skirts, open bar, sandwiches and dessert were served, and not a heathen in sight other than Allison, Van and me down on the rail. Cooley was on fire (just look at the songs he played!) and was ripping his solos and literally bouncing around the stage through the entire set, I think he was looking to show the buttondown crowd a thing or two. I think it took Patterson a while to get into the flow, he lost the crowd early bc he started with some slower stuff (fucking Bulldozers & Dirt for the DNC!!) but he got them back later when he turned up the juice. DBT played from about 11:15-12:30 with a short break between Zip City and LTBR when Gabby Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly took the stage to speak about the theme of the night, gun control. Gabby had to be helped onto the stage and she spoke in short measured clips, but hearing her speak on the issue was seriously inspiring and gave me goose bumps the entire time. Kesha didn’t come on until about 1:15am and she only played 4 or 5 songs but the crowd absolutely loved her, the "kids" were singing along to every word. She made a speech about gun control and some of her personal issues but I honestly couldn’t tell you what the hell she was talking about, she seemed a bit of a hot mess. (But I have to say, I liked her and thought she was great). One other thing to mention is how great the new DBT songs sound. Guns of Umpqua is as simultaneously beautiful and sad a song as Patterson has ever written, and the new Cooley songs (Ramon Casiano in particular) are absolutely fucking blistering. Didn’t get home until after 2am and it was 3 before I went to bed, but well worth the late night out.

A lot of this is covered in the Kate Snow thread but is still worth the read.

Re: DBT to play at Democratic National Convention
Great set last night! I looked around and saw more than a few people singing along (other than Clams and Van), so there were some DBT fans there. It was annoying that people were talking loudly when Patterson was talking but I guess that's what happens when it's a largely non-heathen crowd. I got back to the hotel around 2am, and had to get up at 5 to catch the 6am train back to DC, so today hasn't been a fun day at work, but I agree with Clams -- last night was well worth it!
Uhh, just a bit. The guitar she was "playing" wasn't even amped. But the kids were digging it!Clams wrote:she seemed a bit of a hot mess
I keep it all together for the sake of the kids.

Nothing in particular against Ke$ha except that fake playing a guitar is seriously lame.

Ugh.... I miss the truckers from the late '90s-to early 2k...
As Isbell said, you don't work with Patterson hood, you work for Patterson hood. I'm hoping Cooley will break loose soon and do some of his badass wizardry on a (decent) solo release... One can always dream...
And yes...Jason Isbell was the baddest ass trucker ever... Suck it Patterson
What the hell is wrong with DBT? Corruption at its finest and they support it! To each his own but ,"all politicians are lying sacks of shit". Or "The Presidents Penis Is Missing". Grammy winning Isbell was right to leave.
'm assuming there's a paycheck involved here. No one with a properly functioning moral compass could support the actions of this party. It's overt racism, collusion against a party member and pathological tendencies of its choice should turn anyone away. Still look forward to seeing you in Seattle.
They figured out long ago that if you want your work recorded and promoted that you must kneel at the leftist alter. Funny, my escape from all this non sense used to be music, now, there is no escape from thier (liberals)shit from anywhere, they control music, press, tv news, academia, hollywood, social media, and now even sports.
Patterson, we are not outraged you post your political views, we are outraged that you are campaigning! We have loved you as entertainers, not politicians! You must know the Truckers have Conservative fans! We have traveled the country to see your shows. We have all of your music, t-shirts, sweatshirts, Wes Freed artwork, we have loved your fun, rockin shows! We know what you sing about! You seriously don't understand a lot of your fans would be upset that you played at a big time liberal event! And an anti gun rally, at that! I am proud to be an American! As Americans we have the right to support and say what we want. I have the right not to support liberalism in any way, shape or form!
Just for starters...

What's funny is that I think a lot of them think that Isbell is some raging conservative or something, and that he left DBT to get away from the communist dictator Patterson

Re: DBT to play at Democratic National Convention
To me someone isn't "kind of racist", either they are or they aren't. Some of the right wing folks, who couldn't be more obvious in their racism are especially defensive in this regard. Whether they realize it or not, this causes them to fall firmly into the "doth protest too much" category.
