Saturn is a cool place, reputedly. Not been yet, but it looks to have a retro sci-fi or space age decor. Ties in with Saturn/Birmingham native Sun Ra.

Might be time to get an appointment at my 3rd Ave N. Birmingham office on that date. I hated to miss the DBT shows at the Lyric right down the street but it was not to be.

City Winery is a really, really big room. I'll try to get to that show or the Florence stop.

Patterson played Saturn right before he moved to Portland last year and, I believe, the week it opened. Cooley joined him for a song. Nice venue.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

I've been wanting to check out Saturn. Brian Teasley from "Man or Astro-Man?" was involved so it's no wonder there is a retro sci-fi look to the place. May have to make the drive.

In for Athens. Lord willing. Every time I have plans to see Patterson solo something happens a day or two before the show that keeps me from being able to go. In for now with grit teeth and balled fists out of determination.

There are both seating and standing tickets at Saturn for Patterson Hood this time around. The Cooley show there last December was like that. There were several rows of seats up in front of the stage with the standing area behind all the seats (as opposed to some venues where there is standing at the stage with seats on risers etc off to the sides.) I haven't talked to anyone at Saturn, but assume this show will be the same kind of set up.

I'm coming for a return trip to Birmingham with my father-in-law. We bought tickets a while ago and were debating about hotels tonight! I sure wish we could stay for the Dimmer Twins, but I don't think that will be feasible with getting home for Monday am work! I've seen several Cooley solo shows but this will be my first Patterson solo show!

There's a guy on Facebook with a ticket to Nashville who can't go due to a death in the family. He was offering it for half-price, and now for free. Would someone like to offer him the ten bucks? He was planning on taping. If he'd do that for us, we ought to do something for him.

Here's the link.

So I found the set list on the FB group, Beth posted it there and I am going to copy it here, hope she doesn't mind. I know we lost one taper to a death in his family, I am really hoping there was a backup taper in attendance!

No 867-5309? Disappointing. But it sounds like a good show anyway. ;-)

If last nights show wasn't taped, it will be shame. Patterson said he'd been crying before the show. He learned his Daddy fell in Europe while touring with The Waterboys and broke his wrist. Gulp! Wishing Papa Hood a speedy recovery.

I can't imagine having to put on a show under such circumstances! I'm sure being a rock star isn't as glorious as one might imagine at such times. Best of luck to Patterson's dad!
