Grand Targhee Music Festival – July 15-17, Alta Wyoming

Post by UTHeathen »

Just checked the lineup on a whim. Are you fucking kidding me?

Drive-By Truckers, Grace Potter, Josh Ritter, Hot Tuna Electric, Jamie McLean Band, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, Steve Kimock, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, Jayhawks, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, Bettye Lavette, HoneyHoney, JJ Grey and Mofro, moe.

Three nights of incredible music and camping under the shadow of the Grand Teton. We were there to see the DBT's in 2012 and it was stupid fun. I guess I know where I'll be in the middle of July.

Met Colodogdoc for the first time at Targhee a few years ago. Christie, vominos rapido! C'mon Wyoming isn't that far from Mexico. And Gaetzi, I'm looking at you.

This line from the festival website bio is a bit insulting.

http://www.grandtarghee.com/summer-musi ... est-music/

"Led by frontman Patterson Hood and featuring a rotating cast of Georgia and Alabama natives..."

Rotating cast? Really? Cooley should be a co-front man at worst.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of the boys are Georgia natives.

PH and MC Alabama
EZB South Carolina
MP Mississippi
JG Brooklyn NY (? only one I'm not postive of...)

Son of a! My band is playing a festival outside of Breckenridge that Saturday. But the line up is killer! For a minute I was thinking this was totally doable.

I'm still holding out hope the Truckers try to schedule another CO show or two around Red Rocks.

I believe MP is an Alabama native who lives in Mississippi.

Yep. Matt is from Jasper, AL but lives in Water Valley, MS. That rotating cast line is stupid. 2 co founders, 17 years for EZB, 8 for Jay, heck even Matt is over 4 years now.

I believe MP is an Alabama native who lives in Mississippi.

We will be there again. Loving that they are the Sunday headliner. Camping, music, party, hiking etc. Couldn't be more psyched for the weekend. Also pumped for the JJ and Jackmormons Friday late night, although I am not confident he will be up in time for the 1:30 show on Sat.

Awesome! We're heading up from Salt Lake this afternoon in time to catch the JMO's latenight. Maybe we can meet up over a beer. I'll be the middle aged white guy sporting a T-Shirt, a mild buzz, and a big grin!

Wait, I was the middle aged white guy, sporting a t-shirt with a "mild" buzz and a big grin! Was at the JMO's on Friday and thankfully those guys at the Trap had 100 pitchers of water out there, cause not only was it hot as shit, but Jerry was bringing a ton of heat himself. Might have been the loudest Jackmormon show I have ever seen. Or any show, for that matter. Sorry I missed you, UTH, but I was busy doing difficult aerobics/interpretive dance on the floor and there was NO possibility of talking, with that volume.

As far as Truckers go, I think I need to change my approach for daytime shows. Seems I get just a tad too amped up (an affliction common for those of us in the intermountain west that can't travel a lot) and lose my mojo early, if they start off with a few slower guys. Was still great and they seem so fuckin' happy when they are playing outdoors in the mountains.

Bettye Lavette blew doors. Jerry Joseph preached like a mofo! Truckers blew people away who were previously unawares. Matt's grin was exceptionally large.

Looking forward to Mizzoula in that sick venue (that I haven't been to, but heard all about). Sweet, sweet darkness.

Hope I am not overstepping in having a larger post when I am new, but I don't see this community really acting like that. Please appreciate my run-on nature.

Nice write-up Dirtbird. What an awesome weekend. We didn't arrive until about 10 p.m. on Friday night and the JMO's show at the Trap was sold out. Didn't keep us from hearing the show from just outside the Trap, all the way to our camp at the far reaches. We could hear Second Skin like we were inside the bar. I've been a Jerry Joseph fan since my first Little Women show in 1983, but it never ceases to amaze me how much fire, energy and passion that Jerry brings to the stage. The Jackmormons festival set crushed it. Maybe my favorite performance of the weekend. I think I have to agree with you regarding the DBT set. I loved it (as always), but I'm not sure that being the festival closer in the daylight after 3 days of rocking is the optimal position for them. They played a great two hour set, but by the time it was over, I was totally spent. I still haven't had a chance to compile my photos from the weekend (we saw Boz Scaggs at the Red Butte Gardens last night), so stay tuned for my photos.

This show is on the archive as of today.

I added the set list in the reviews section. Great recording if you desire clear vocals. Instruments kind of suppressed.
