Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
Hometown show, 2nd year in a row! Hell yes! IN.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved
Re: Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
Uncle Keith and I should make it again. I will be fishing at Lake Fork earlier that week but may leave day early to make it, in fact I think I will

We are counting on you to be generous and gentlemanly and hold our place on the rail while we go get a town full of people to agree to a colonoscopy. You can break in line if you were out saving lives, right?
Consistently holding bullshit up to the light of reason
Re: Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
Why yes, of course you can!! I was sadly informed that since that is my wifes bday week, she wants to celebrate by going to see the Molly ringwalds here in Shreveport on same night DBT playing. I am slowly trying to hypnotize her our of that scenario. Fingers crossed!!!!Lurleen McQueen wrote:We are counting on you to be generous and gentlemanly and hold our place on the rail while we go get a town full of people to agree to a colonoscopy. I'm definitely out for Jackson. I've been enlisted to help do stuff for a family reunion that weekend.

Posting with a finger-ungiving avatar in a thread in which every other avatar is giving the finger is, in itself, a form of giving the finger. It's all good.schlanky wrote:(Is it OK to post in this thread even if my avatar pic isn't giving the finger? )

Re: Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
Giving some serious consideration to this one. Band of Heathens is one of my wifes favs and a twin bill of DBT and BOH is almost too good to pass up!

I'm giving serious thought to this one. I lived in Jackson for several years and I'd love to see them at Hal and Mal's.

They were great there last year. The sound system is new and the crowd was great. Hope you make it!Clams's friend Deb wrote:I'm giving serious thought to this one. I lived in Jackson for several years and I'd love to see them at Hal and Mal's.

Hmm.. a Friday night, it's my birthday, flights are reasonable and I've never been to Mississippi. Plus TC and Lurleen.
Is Jackson a cool town? Like a place worth checking out for the wkend?

Re: Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
I just learned something interesting. From Little Rock to Jackson by way of Monroe is a hair under a five hour drive, and from Jackson back to where I'm supposed to be in Arkansas that Saturday is a hair over a five hour drive. I'd thought about the Jackson trip as a one-off but decided it was too much, especially if I'd made last night's show at Cain's. I'll have to ponder if I can use the day off and still fulfill my kid commitments, but I'm giving it very heavy thinking. What time do you figure this show will be over?

Best guess is around midnight or a little later. Band of Heathens at 8:00, DBT at 9:15-9:30? There is no curfew.John A Arkansawyer wrote:I just learned something interesting. BoH will be a great opener. I've seen them a few times and they're usually a real tight group. Wish I could make this one, but it's a 12 hour ride from eastern NC. :^(

Re: Hal & Mal's Jackson, MS 4/29
I just had a wonderful breakfast--that sausage patty was so big I should be writing about it in the Hockey thread--in a sweet little cafe in the basement of the Standard Life building, a short walk from Hal and Mal's, called Revolution's Corner
They'll open back up for lunch, and again for dinner. They do serve beer and wine. And now on to my next writing perch, wherever I might find it.

So the exhibition upstairs in the Arts Center is good enough that I won't make it to the actual museum. It's by an artist named Ann Saunders. It's all for sale and she's doing tours tomorrow at 11:30 and 1:30.

I wish I was there simply because they were the opener. I've been a fan of them for a pretty long time. My wife recommended them to me saying, "These guys remind a little bit of Driveby Truckers".John A Arkansawyer wrote:Band of Heathens was really good.
Glad you liked them.
