Man what a night. The bar has been set extremely high for the rest of the weekend but I have no doubt they will clear it.
Last night I decided to forego my usual spot between Patterson and Cooley right behind the rail crowd and hung farther back in front of Jay. I have a whole new level of appreciation for how great that guy is. Wow. Also bumped in to him a few hours before the show and he truly is a nice person.
Unbelievable show. Unbelievable people. Followed the show up with a trip to the Waffle House with LbRod, Flea, and our two Alaskan friends who were attending g their first rock show. Wow. Let's do it again tonight.

I'm really, really hoping to hear this one again. "When They Banned Imagine" is my head title for this one till I'm told otherwise. I swore last night I wouldn't forget that full line and I'm having to work at getting it back exact. Anyone else?laraelisabeth wrote:new cooley song- something about imagine

I have no idea... Imagine was the only word I got. It was late in the evening.

Re: Homecoming 2016 40 Watt Club Athens, GA 2/11,12 & 13
I'll say it again: the band has never been better and when they're loose and having fun it shows in the sound and you get a night like last nite. High energy, big fun and great music.
I know I've heard Ramon Casiano before so maybe it was at the Chicago soundcheck (?). The reason I mention that is that it's an unbelievably impressive long way from that initial work in progress to last night's finished (for now) product. More rock, fuller arrangement and even though I couldn't get every word it's pretty clear the song is a killer lyrically. Making it the opener was surprising and maybe a little bit daring but it was just so damn good it totally worked.
Fe 14 was one of the louder, fiercer, more committed performances I've seen and it kept the momentum going beautifully. Marry Me sealed the deal; Fabulous high energy version that had me thinking after THREE songs "what are they going to do tomorrow? The show continued strong but I'm not going to mention every one.
"Righteous Path" feels to me like Patterson has worked it and worked it and has now found the heart and soul of the song. I've always loved and I think the lyrics are among his best but performances have varied and it was absent from the set for a while. But now it's back in a big, bold, confident format that really gets over.
"Where the Devil Dont Stay" and "72" had Cooley growling at his scariest, deepest best really highlighting the menace in both songs and Patterson kept pace w/ "Ronnie & Neil."
The "Heathens" - "Sounds Better" double is always a highlight and last nite was no exception. Jay did some particularly great work on these, both fills and leads.
"Tornadoes brought back the "let's get inside the song and find the menace" mode I mentioned above, "Love Like This" was, well, "Love Like This." Damn. WWW & PPOM were both titanic, swelling versions w/ PPOTM in particular going off in some interesting instrumental directions. Again, the interplay among the musicians is at an incredible point of intuitive, complementary and inventive playing.
The encore just smoked. It had its own momentum and just jumped from highlight to highlight and from surprising choice to surprising choice (Sandwiches? Buttholeville? Where was Patterson pulling these out from?) The new Cooley "imagining" song sounds like a Cooley classic in the making full of passion and possibly great lines (can't swear to exactly what the lyrics are).
For those who keep track of such things, the band did not do the walk off thing on A&F, as they all stayed on stage until the end.
I want to rave a little more about Jay and Matt. Damn they are so good. Jay did a lot of guitar/keyboard in the same song stuff and i think maybe we take that for granted but it can't be easy. I can't remember if i said before that he played more keys than guitar and more organ than piano and his solos were soulful and his fills ear catching and propulsive. Matt's playing is simply dazzling and as best as i can tell, energizes everyone. And as has been noted by a number of people over the past couple of years, their presence and contributions seems to really energize Patterson, Brad and Cooley all of whom are playing better than ever to these ears.
Let's do it again!

From the back, the chatter was off the charts; the recording is hard to listen to.

I know it's a prayer, but I'm in search for one ticket tonight. A good friend traveled from NC on the promise of a ticket through Craigslist and the lister just sold it out from under him. Please email me at micahrogers@gmail.Com if anyone can save his evening.

Sweet Jesus Big Tom the sound is REALLY clear.

NM. Mattador fixed it.

BigTom, thank you so much, you are an artist! I've listened to plenty of streams before and always been at least a little disappointed with the sound quality. These last two nights have been absolutely some of the best sounding streams I've ever heard!
