Good lord what an opening night. That's the longest Thursday show in the 5 years we've been coming to Homecoming. Gonna need to rest up for tomorrow. They came on a little after 11:00 and wrapped up at almost 2:00. Fun night tonight!

The boys are not fucking around. Only been seeing them live since 2012, but tonight was easily the best show I've seen. And the best crowd too. Everyone seemed transfixed by the brilliance of the show. Polite, smart people focusing on music. Yay for us!

Dudes. Seriously? On a THURSDAY? That was w/out a doubt the best thursday show at any homecoming i've attended and the best first night show of any multiple night run I've attended. Just spectacular in every way from the opening note.

Fantastic crowd, by far the biggest for a homecoming thursday. The boys came out looking relaxed and happy and full of energy and the crowd fed off that energy and the band fed off the crowd's energy in a self-fulfilling positive feedback loop.

The highlights were many. Songs from all over the catalog, fantastic playing by all parties, some reworked bits of ever evolving favorites, 3 new[ish] songs, one of them a debut I think and a lot of people having a great time both on and in front of the stage. Details to follow.

I skip my set list duties anytime Tyler or UR are in the house so I can't help ya but I'm sure it's coming. Oh and the show, kick ass works, so did what Bubba said. All people could do after was smile and say "Thursday".

Agreed - a lot fewer talkers and rambunctiousness. The guys grabbed me early and held me rapt. Absolutely one of the best shows I've ever seen.

- the sound last night was fantastic where I was standing. The Matador did a great job last night.
- they opened with a new Cooley song, pretty ballsy but a great move and a really good song.

Thursday Setlist?

They started just after 11 and ended a little before 2 am. About 2.5 hours of playing time.

It's really hard to write about the show in any detail w/out a set list. But I'm ready and waiting once it does get posted.

Still buzzed from last nite.

Dogstar is right about the sound but I thought it was a little fuzzy or rough edged at the beginning. I just love the way Mattador makes those in game adjustments and the sound was top notch from about 2 or 3 songs in.

It was one of those nights where it felt like Patterson and Cooley were in "can you top this" mode as they traded songs. I don't mean that like it's a literal competition but they push each other in a good way when everything's clicking like last nite. And the band. The band is just SO fucking good right now. Yes, Ponygirl, they were on fire on everything from quieter acoustic based numbers to 3 guitar rave ups complete w/ distortion. Some newly prominent keyboard work from Jay including a couple of very soulful solos on organ. I don't have either the technical musical knowledge or the words to adequately describe Matt's playing but he just keeps getting better and is a joy to listen to and watch. I think I've figured out that when he does that back to the audience 2 step shuffle it's like Red Auerbach's victory cigar: Sort of his seal of approval that they're on it and killing it and enjoying the hell out of each other. I' ve said it before but EZB seems to really enjoy playing w/ Matt and it shows in his playing too - never showy but rock solid and on the money. Patterson, Cooley and Jay all ripped off some nice solos and the interplay among them was loud and rockin'.
