I highly recommend this book. David's a great writer and his books are real geeky fun (and educational!).

The release party is in Durham on 12/9 so if that's not the exact release date it's close.bovine knievel wrote:Anybody know when this gets released?

Per David, by the time of the Motorco event it should be for sale at book stores everywhere.

As posted by author David Klein on the Facebook page for If 6 Was 9:
We live in an age of Geek. If the Geeks haven’t exactly inherited the Earth, they have at least become a magnificently ubiquitous presence in this modern age we live in. Modern life is a whiplash juxtaposition of new horizons being explored and almost instantly abandoned at such a breakneck speed that we are often left longing for something a little more real, a little more substantial and lasting. Hence, the modern-day vinyl renaissance. Music can be amassed so easily and cheaply that some still yearn for the old-timey feel of holding something permanent, or at least physically real, in our hands: an album cover with a real, preferably heavy slab of vinyl that can only be played by the physical act of a diamond stylus riding upon a groove.
Into that backdrop of our collective time enters David Klein’s new magnum opus of sonic numerology. If 6 Was 9 is his exhaustive and highly entertaining listing and ranking of songs with numbers in the title. It’s all here, from the seemingly obvious (Big Star’s “Thirteen” and Hendrix’s “If 6 Was 9”) to the deep digging obscure (Magnolia Electric Co.’s “Texas 71” and Sleater-Kinney’s “Dance Song ’97”). Bonus points in my book for the inclusion of my band’s song “72” and even bigger bonus points for also including Dickie Goodman’s “Convention ’72,” a 45 of which I bought as a second grader and still own.
When I first heard about If 6 Was 9, I told the author that this was “Geek Shit at its finest” and of course I meant that as a compliment. Informative and just a ton of fun, it’s a book to read and enjoy, then set upon the bookcase, overstuffed with records old and new. A useful aid to countless mix tapes and playlists, and tonic for many a late-night drunken debate, If 6 Was 9 starts a conversation that won’t be finished anytime soon.

That Patterson bought this single in second grade and still owns it gives us a lot of insight into...well, a lot of things:
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

Fred Mills used to be pretty active on the Neil Young fan group Rust List, he and I communicated quite a bit back in the day, talking Record Bar and all kinds of other NC music stuff. Glad to see he's still movin' & doin'Kudzu Guillotine wrote:Nice review of the book from Fred Mills at Blurt magazine.
