BTW....I'm not talking about lyrical brilliance of the song. That is a different discussion.
I mean the one you ROCK the hardest to when hearing the opening lick.

I think the rev nailed it with Shut Up and Get on the Plane, but there are too many to choose from...

As of right now, I'd have to agree with Zip here. Women Without Whiskey.

By that standard, it almost has to be "Shut Up And Get On The Plane". By a whole different standard about RESPONDING to the hardest on the opening lick, it's "Space City" or "Cottonseed".

WWW

Since Cooley long ago started playing it live as a rock song as opposed to kind of country as recorded on SRO, the space from when he starts with "Take me piece by piece..." until he slows it to "The highway's humming..." is as good of 35 seconds or so of head banging rock that has ever been played.

Greatest song? Hard to say, Space City, A Ghost to Most?

Live I agree with Zip and the others, WWW is the hardest hitting live song. WTDDS would be a distant second, not that it isnt pretty awesome in its own right.

Marry Me always makes me feel like I am at a Stones concert in the 70's. As far as his greatest song overall, Sounds Better in the Song is my absolute favorite.

Speaking strictly of just live songs when I'm in attendance at the show:

1. Zip City
2. Women Without Whiskey
3. One of These Days
4. Marry Me
5. Shut Up & Get On The Plane

And on any given day at any given show these songs can be in any order.
Turn you demons into walls of goddamned noise and sound.

It really gets me especially fired up when I hear the opening chord to "Where the Devil Don't Stay."

I discovered DBT by listening to random albums on Rhapsody. Bob was one of the first songs that had real impact on me. So unusual, but it is just another mini portrait in music that they do so well. I almost thought of it as a parody at the time, but it is far from that. Lot's of Bobs in this world, and that is not a bad thing. (unless I am completely missing something)

Other than "First Air of Autumn" the best Cooley song is the one he just decided to play...

You have a point there. I know I find myself quoting from it from time to time.

I love that song, too. It nearly killed me the first time it came on after my dad died. I wasn't expecting it and I almost had to pull over. And now that I think about it, I was just passing the I-30 Speedway when that happened. Funny how these things happen, isn't it? I dreamed about a dead friend last night, too.

My only real affection for racing is that my parents took me to a stock car race at the Garfield County Fairgrounds when I was three. Loretta Lynn was performing there, and knowing them, I'm pretty sure that's why they went. So my first concert ever was with one of the Truly Greats.

Impossible to say but probably either Zip City or Women Without Whyskey. Although I do love Daddy's Cup. I wish he wouldn't insist on keeping it shelved.
