Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I've had the urge lately to say, "I'm trying to be 43," but no one I'm around will get what I mean. They'll all just thing I'm trying to be young again.211poundsofpork wrote:"#3 might have the car but 43 has got the nerve"

Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
probably just fit the song, but as one who disliked #3 and #43 I still wouldn't say he had it backwards. To me #21 was always the man. The Silver Fox didn't even run full schedules and he was still dominantSmitty wrote:that line always bothered me, since I think he's got it backwards.211poundsofpork wrote:"#3 might have the car but 43 has got the nerve"

The way he sings it fits the meter of the song.

Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I just learned something new! I thought those were just good-sounding numbers for the song.

Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
"Marry Me" is the one that hooked me. It's still my go-to "turn someone on to DBT" song.
Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
Haha. That's funny. I did the exact same thing last week with a friend. I started the song and looked at him. He got a wry grin on his face and about 30 seconds in he said "hell, that's Already Gone by the Eagles"....
Like the Dude might respond, I said "well, that's just like your opinion, man".

Thanks! David Pearson was the man. Ours was a Pearson house, Richard Petty was very unpopular theredbtfan4life wrote:wow... great pics by the way wwcd

I would have said, "No. Maybe Already Gone done by the Stones." "I FUCKING HATE the Eagles".....The Dude.Humboldt wrote:Haha. That's funny. I did the exact same thing last week with a friend. Actually that guy made a decent point. Marry Me has always had a familiarity to me to an unidentified song. I do believe it is Already Gone.
Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I would have said that but the problem is I really don't "hate" the Eagles, man. Yes the Dude did hate the Eagles, but I think their first 4 albums were mostly pretty good. Now if he said "this sounds like Lying Eyes", I may have pulled the trigger on the Dude's line.

Early Eagles were decent in the sense that they exposed a style of music to the masses that others were doing better than they were. The Journey version of Gram Parsons.Humboldt wrote:I would have said that but the problem is I really don't "hate" the Eagles, man. Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I've learned that Eagles hatred is confined to a certain generation that saw them in their actual popularity.
I like the Eagles; always have. They wrote some good songs. I can see why they burned the flags of those who were there at the time, but songs like "Already Gone", "Lyin' Eyes", "Tequila Sunrise", "Take it Easy" and "Doolin' Daltons" were great.

Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I've heard it said on more than one occasion that the Eagles turned off some fans when they decided they were really more of a rock band. While I do prefer the early, more country Eagles, I can't say I ever flipped the dial when songs like "Life In the Fast Lane" and "Those Shoes" came on. Like "Hotel California", they may also be the victim of overplay.
Back on topic, I'm not sure if I can think of a greatest Cooley song but I do have a friend that firmly believes "Lisa's Birthday" doesn't get enough love. I'll second that commotion.

Re: Greatest Cooley Song???
I wasn't being time specific in that post but to clarify, I was thinking of back when those songs were relatively new. I don't know what stations would play "Those Shoes" in 2015. I still listen to radio but it tends to be of the left of the dial variety.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:where do you live that Those Shoes has been played on the radio since 1980/81?Kudzu Guillotine wrote:I can't say I ever flipped the dial when songs like "Life In the Fast Lane" and "Those Shoes" came on. So. Hard. To. Choose
Daddy's Cup explains why I should never have kids. I'd do that to them but with cycling.
Zip City is the best teen angst song I ever heard
Women Without Whisky is Women Without Whisky
This week I'm going with Where The Devil Don't Stay. Just for the slide line
