Chicago 11/13 & 11/14

Post by CooleyGirl »

Looking forward to these shows. The first night is UR's birthday, sounds like the perfect way to celebrate!

Does anyone have hotel suggestions that are close to the venue?

Unfortunately the only real options for you are downtown, preferably the South Loop. It used to be you could get great deals on the weekend at those hotels since they're primarily aimed at business but I've heard that's not quite the case anymore. The venue is on the South Side and there just isn't much there in terms of lodging. If you do find something there research it thoroughly. The South Side has some really nice neighborhoods and some very, very bad ones. You should be able to cab it from downtown or even drive if you rent a car without much trouble.

Looking pretty likely I'll make these two. Bought tickets, so at least there's that for an incentive :)

Me, too. And that day I can spend at the Art Institute. And Madtown that Sunday, which I miss a lot.

Looks like a mini HC in the making.

Maybe the crew could work the August GATh shows back into rotation just to save us the anxiety (hint hint)

If y'all convene on my former hometown with us not there I will most likely hate everyone of you. Kidding. Mostly. ;)

In for Saturday as traffic won't permit getting there on Friday.

I can't believe that I am going to missing these shows, but I'll have less than a two month old at the time.

Beth and I are trying to find ways to make these shows. One option is that she goes to Friday night and I go to Saturday, while the other stays at home with the kiddos. That is contingent of course on the bottle feeding ability perspective of which we won't know until later.

Either way, this would be the second set of Chicago shows in the past 3 1/2 years that we would miss due to a newborn. Family first.

It kills me that there is going to be a good 3DD showing and I'm slapped with the "Questionable For the Start of DBT Season" tag.

Have not been to Thalia Hall yet, but have heard great reviews. A building that was built in 1892 and newly restored. They have a Punch Bar downstairs which you grab punches and bring them up to the main floor. They range from anywhere from $8 for a glass of punch to $54 dollars for a bowl of punch. Man, would it be fun to catch more than just a little buzz.
The scouting report Pilsen neighborhood is up and coming with a lot of hipsters, but keep the general rule is to keep your wits about you after midnight and don't wander terribly far from the venue. You are fine by the venue. Don't worry about it. Just don't be an idiot. Walking 5 blocks from the venue could put you in a different neighborhood demographic.

If I don't see you guys down there, have a great time.

Maybe I don't need to go after all. The very thought of a neighborhood coming with hipsters makes my testes snuggle up into my groin.

More than likely not, could be a little on the cold side but you never know. Snow though is probably a very slim chance...

Very happy to hear this. Also know that while I have professed my hate for others attending these shows you my friend are exempt from that ire. Have a piece of Lou Malnati's for me will ya?

PS. Not that anyone would anyway  but don't feel sorry for us as we are in for night two of Nashville the next weekend and getting very close to adding night one as well.
