DBT @ Palace of Auburn Hills (Detroit Rock City)

Post by Burglekutt »

I saw DBT open for Tom Petty at the Palace last night. Really good show. It was interesting to see them playing to somebody else's crowd, and the subtle ways that it differed from a "normal" DBT show. I felt like they were trying extra-hard to really get their lyrics across to the audience. They also seemed less drunk than usual. ;) A very focused performance. I think they probably earned some new fans last night. The crowd in my general vicinity appeared to be into them -- at the least, people were listening attentively after just a song or two instead of talking through the opener.

Lady behind me and her husband had a sorta-funny conversation in between songs:

Lady: "Who are these guys?"
Husband: "I have no idea."
Lady: "I think they're called 'Garage' something."
Me (turning around in my seat): "They're called Drive-By Truckers."
Lady: "Ah! I knew it had something to do with cars."

They were on at 7:30 sharp and they played for a full hour -- off stage at 8:30. Petty came on at 9:05.

Here's the DBT setlist:

Very nice burglekutt. Way to make an entry splash, thanks for the fine write up and welcome.

I do believe that "I knew it had something to do w/ cars" is gonna be a keeper.
