5/22/15 Jay Gonzalez Album Release Show

Post by CooleyGirl »

Looking forward to Jay's album release show at the 40 Watt next Friday. Figured it was time for a thread about it on here.

The excitement is building! Only 27+/- hours until we arrive in Athens.
When the lights came up we all went home but never quite the same.

Well I suppose I don’t have to tell you it was pretty much excellent. Marshmallow Coast opened and was suitably weird and interesting in an E6 kind of way. Needless to say sitting at tables was a different kind of experience at the 40 Watt, but by the time Jay and his band got up there we’d had enough of that and stood at the front of the stage per usual. It was the same band (Chris Grehan, Peter Alvanos, Kevin Lane, and Joe Rowe) that Jay had backing him at his Nashville/Atlanta/Athens shows in February. They were tight and really looked like they were enjoying playing together.

I have a set list around here somewhere, but from my memory (which is slightly hazy for some reason), in addition to The Bitter Suite we got some Mess of Happiness songs as well as a handful of new ones. Jay said they’d be going into the studio to do a little recording that week, so maybe we’ll see official versions of those new ones pop up at some point.

Beyond all the great music it was just an incredibly fun evening. 3DD represented nicely: CG and I were joined by pa_heathen and her hubby, one belt loop, PBR Man and Holly, litdimly, RevMatt, sc redhead and Josh. Also the Hoods were there, as well as Easy-B and Barbe, Cole, Matt D running sound, etc. It was a really fun night all the way around. Sloan was there taping; I can’t wait for his recording to surface online so I can re-live it.

Is this a regional thing? My daughter is days from twelve and I've never heard this from her or her two older, yet still teen-age, cousins. (Whereas I have said it myself. Ironically, I assure you.)
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

I have a 13 year old daughter and I teach freshmen...I've never heard it either, for what it's worth.
