Smiling
How about DBT bring back Smiling? I had a rough day today and went right to this gem and it instantly did the trick. It's such a great and touchingly sweet song and it always sounded like the guys genuinely enjoyed playing it. Especially with Jay there to take the third verse, it sounds like a winner to me.
Three guitars or a life of crime
Re: Smiling
I think Hood, Cooley & Isbell closed last year's fathers day show with it. Sterling you should definitely track down a copy of that show if you don't already have it.
Btw, what's up man?!? How ya been?

Re: Smiling
I've seen this on setlits and always assumed it was Little Feat's "Keep on Smiling"!
That would be awesome to hear...especially with the current bass player!!!!!!! This could be the new Patton theme song!

E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.
Re: Smiling
They closed with it at my first show. It may have been the last night of the SRO tour with a few DD songs thrown in as it had just came out.
Patterson introduced it as the greatest song ever. My buddy thought they were going to play freebird. I laughed at him and I knew nothing
about the band as I had only discovered them the day before. I've seen it a few times since but that remains my favorite.

and the rest as they say is uh er uh, well somebodies history somewhere?
Re: Smiling
They did close the Hood, Cooley, Isbell show last year year with "Keep On Smilin". I didn't see it coming and proceeded to lose my shit.

We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved
Re: Smiling
They played "Keep on Smiling" at the end of my first show as well. Been aware of Wet Willie since the 70's. They were also referenced in the Charlie Daniels Band's classic, "The South's gonna do it again".
"Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay
He ain't good lookin', but he sure can play
And there's ZZ Top and you can't forget
That old brother Willie's gettin' soakin' wet
And all the good people down in Tennessee
Are diggin' Barefoot Jerry and C.D.B"

Re: Smiling
Thanks Clams! That was a fun version and a great concert (funny enough Eyes Like Glue was my favorite).
With respect to Keep on Smiling, I can understand if they want to keep that song for the three of them, but I still vote to bring it out once in a while. Regardless, it certainly was the perfect way to end that concert.
