I've been trying to NOT buy posters at the show because I have a huge pile of them still to frame...and even if I did get them finished I'm not sure I have a big enough house to fit them all in! ...I failed last night. Show was too good. The pile is a little bit taller today.

Tracking out the recording now. I might have it done later tonight. One of the hardest things about tracking out a great show is I can't skip through the songs to place the track marks...I end up listening to every song so it takes AT LEAST as long as the show to get it done. My Rangers are playing in about 15 minutes...so I'll have to take a break for the game. Still have a bunch of energy though...so hopefully I can finish it up after the game.
Seems like this will be worth waiting up for.

I like Cooley with the beard growing. I've always thought he looked a little like Doyle Blackburn, except not blonde:

Who is going to the Tuesday show? 28th Seattle?
I have a friend whom I have been BEGGING to go see DBT for 8 years and she has finally bought a ticket. Will there be any HeAthens who can show her some love? Her name is Kim Holloway. She has funky glasses and I think her hair might be purple right now. She is a joy. Please let me know

Thanks for taping the show man! Good times. I don't know what was going on with Cooley, but he definitely seemed pissed for a big part of the evening. I thought the sound was mostly fine, except the keys seemed pretty high in the mix. Could have just been where I was standing though. Possibly the best encore of any show I've been to.

Great recording, Mike! I came in with a pretty big buzz, sorry I never came by to introduce myself.

As others have mentioned, I thought Jay and EZB really shined in the more stripped down environment where typically ripping guitars take center stage. As a drummer myself, I spent the most time digging what Brad was doing. Dude's very much like Charlie Watts in his style. Subtle with no flash, just holding down great drum beats with the right amount of swing and feel. And lots of great B3 playing from Jay as well as more bar room piano on stuff like Get on the Plane.

Unless something remarkable happens in the next few hours, I am just not making the Monterey show Friday night. Bummed but unbowed and still in a pretty good mood from an excellent weekend.

Did they take a set break last night?

And finally the first Bulldozers and Dirt of the tour? Seeing as they named the tour after it, I figured they'd be playing it every night.

I imagine that is what the ....... Between the songs is referencing,
But only a guess.

Heading to LA in about an hour. Pumped up for the show. My buddy was in Solana Beach last night and said they killed it. Just under 3 hours. I hope they do the same tonight. Anyone else going?

So, since nobody has posted anything about the Flagstaff show, I guess I'll chime in.

The band played two sets with a 10-15 break in between and an encore. Like the other TDU shows it came in at just under three hours. I was sitting in the front row center with my wife; if you met the couple from Sierra Vista, that was us. I didn't write down a setlist and my memory is pretty hazy but I think these were the songs that got played:

the living bubba
self destructive zones
a ghost to most
bulldozers and dirt
women without whiskey
72
zip city
heathens
sounds better in the song
when the pin hits the shell
carl perkins cadillac
the sands of iwo jima
cottonseed
the flying wallendas
i do believe
pulaski
pauline hawkins
grand canyon

218 to denver
what it means
tough to let go
bennie and the jets
ooh la la

That's not at all in the order they were played, mind you. If anyone has a better memory than me I'd love to hear from you. The band was absolutely firing on all cylinders; Cooley and Jay in particular really blew me away. The crowd left something to be desired. A lot of folks were just milling around in the back and Patterson at times had to struggle to talk over them. Disappointing, but what are you going to do. I saw somebody setting up a rig for taping and meant to go over and say howdy but somehow didn't get around to it. Hope that recording surfaces. Anyway, I'll echo what others have said, which is, if you get the chance, absolutely go to one of these shows. Living where I do I don't get the chance to see a whole lot of DBT shows (this was #6 for me) but of that small sample this was definitely the best show I've seen yet.

After several listens to this fine tape, I have a humble opinion. Neff's steel guitar work is missed most in this setting.
