Patterson Hood wrote:Cain’s is a nearly 80-year old venue that for years was home to Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys. It has a bouncy floor and huge portraits of Wills, Spade Cooley (the murderous western swing artist rumored on Wikipedia to be Mike Cooley’s Grandfather. He isn’t.), Roy Acuff and Roy Rogers. It oozes history and is a wonderful place to throw down a Rock Show.
Well I guess that's settled.

Re: Patterson's tour diary part 1
We were approached by Petty’s management about possibly opening some shows a few months back. We already had a European tour planned, but tickets hadn’t gone on sale yet so we rescheduled that for November and said YES!
Damn you, Tom Petty!

Re: Patterson's tour diary part 1
Thanks for the road notes, Patterson (but, please, come back to Seattle).
One of the times I saw Petty was on the very last stop of the Southern Accents tour, in Atlanta. My wife and I happened to sneak backstage. We didn't last long and were escorted out the back door of the arena into the parking garage/area. While we were standing on the sidewalk trying to figure out which way to go a huge, white limousine pulled up in front of us (he had to stop before getting on the road). I figured it was TP and the HBs in the limo. All I could think to do was rap on the window (heavily tinted) and flip them the double bird. I have always LOVED TP, but that seemed apropos for the moment. If they were in there, I hope they had a good laugh over it.

We saw that Petty/Replacements show in Jax. We took our son Jessie who
was about 7 at the time. His first concert. The Replacements totally sucked
and I can see why Petty fired them. First impressions do matter as I have
never seeked out any of their material.
It is really great the way the Petty crew is treating DBT.

yeah, I saw that same tour at the shed in Indianapolis. 'Mats sadly phoned it in, you could tell it was about 4 months past the end with those guys at that point. We took my friends niece who was wheelchair bound and got the great sitting area with waitress service.
Too bad it soured you on them though as their catalog is the core stuff of about everything I listen too.

I saw The Replacements open for Tom Petty on the Full Moon Fever tour at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The only reason I drove three hours to the show and bought that expensive ticket with money I should have spent on something like car insurance was to the see The Replacements. They opened with a really ragged(even for them) song that I think at some point may have resembled Night Club Jitters. They were off key and out of tune and pretty much sucked but they were my guys and it was fucking glorious. Worth every penny and more.

agree, great stuff, thanks Patterson.
of course Deer Creek is the shed in Indy, (Noblesville actually as noted), original name before it was corpnamehere amptheater.
it's funny, that club in DeKalb has been a running joke for dumbass behavior on the Cracker board for years.

Patterson does such a great job on this.
Would have loved to have seen that Cain's show, one of the few venues in America the Sex Pistols played with Sid.

LOL - too funny....love the mention of the DeKalb fight.
I will still say that about 50% of the DBT shows I go to, I see a fight.....
Thx for the posting of the articles!!
Good stuff.

Passed the time blasting The Quadrajets’ 1998 masterpiece “Pay The Deuce” on about 11 on the turntable. There probably wouldn’t have ever been DBT if it weren’t for The Quadrajets.
fucking a.
