Rochester, NY (2015)

Post by guitarmanmcs »

Hey everyone. I must admit...I am fairly new to the forum here (joined awhile back) but lost my password and recently discovered it :D . I am heading to Rochester, NY and making the five hour drive in the middle of winter :fingers crossed for no snow storms:. This will be the wife and my first trip to Rochester. I am going to make a weekend out of it for our one year wedding anniversary...and sneaking in a DBT show is no sin ;) . Any suggestions of stuff to do in the area or in Rochester?

Is anyone on here planning on going to the show? Any good bars or restaurants near the venue for those of you who are locals?

Rochester in the winter is a tough place. Really cold. My favorite place to eat is Dinosaur BBQ. Unreal BBQ food. https://www.dinosaurbarbque.com
House of Guitars is a great place. Checking out Lake Ontario is a must.

CG and I will be there. I know nothing of the downtown area, but Dinosaur BBQ is 0.6 miles from the venue; sounds like the perfect spot for pregame food/booze.

I'll be in Rochester for the show. I would be happy to meet up with fellow DBT fans for food & drink before the show.

I think that sounds like a great idea.

I live in Rochester and will be at the show. Been awhile since I been down that way for a gig though, so I'll check with some friends. There used to be a decent pub/restaurant around the corner but not sure if it's there still.

I third that vote for Dinosaur BBQ. Good food/booze and walking distance to the venue sounds great to me.

Dinosaur is a good choice. Another option if the weather is too crappy to walk the half mile to Dinosaur is Scotland Yard Pub. They seemed to have been closed for awhile so I'll double check with a friend to make sure they are open again. It's around the block from the venue, probably takes less than a minute to walk there.

Tapas 177 is also right next to that pub - just another option if anyone is looking for places to pre-game that are walking distance.

Parking for Water Street is literally right behind the venue, usually $10. If you get there super early (but after 5 or 6 or whenever the meters are off) you can park for free on one of the nearby streets and easily walk to the venue.

A cool place to visit while you're here, aside from the House of Guitars, is the Record Archive, a huge, warehouse like music store with a very cool vibe, and all sorts of surprise, music and otherwise.

http://www.recordarchive.com/

I can't offer anyone a place to stay (I got two kids in diapers running around here) but if anyone is coming in from out of town and needs some advice about places to stay or anything else, let me know.

I can also provide a list of top-notch local beers to check out while you're in town, if anyone is interested...

I'm curious as well. What time are DBT on?

I do not think there is an opener. They will occasionally just play themselves and since this is a "stop" in between Eric Church dates (I think if memory serves me right) there won't be. I am hoping for a 9:00 start so they can play longer. :-)

Me too.

With a week to go, we should probably think about organizing a pre-show get together. Sounds like Dinosaur BBQ is a good plan.

Thoughts?

I think we're in for Dinosaur BBQ. I'm not concerned about a 1/2 mile walk in snow. If I can do a 40 block walk in NYC in the peak of summer, this will be no problem. As far as snow goes, well it looks like there might be some, but just a nuisance.

Im seeing flood warnings for Rochester this weekend on my weather.com app.

Question for the locals, is this anything to be concerned about? I have a bit of a hike to get to this show and the weather is my main concern.

Unlikely - don't think it will be much to be concerned about in the city or commuting in or out of the area.

Change of plans. Going to Scotland Yard Pub in a little while. Figuring Dinosaur will be too crowded due to remnants of the St. Patty's Day parade crazies.

Good to know about the parade. We'd still be interested in meeting up if people are open to that. We just arrived at our hotel.

Great show. We were one of the first in line and we were given access to the VIP balcony which was nice. I am still debating about whether or not I would rather stand at a DBT show. Set list was very diverse and solid. The new song Cooley played was fantastic.

I would write more but I am on my cell phone and it's a hassle. I know the show was recorded. I heard the taper say it will be on tomorrow.

It was nice to say hi to Cooley after the show and tell him in passing how good it was.

It was a new Cooley song, and a good one.
