I have to question the validity of this "Primer" that lists about 15 great restaurants yet doesn't include a fine establishment such as The Waffle House. Let me tell you, there's nothing like the Athens Waffle House where you can dine with friends at 3:00am and eat an entire week's worth of sodium, fat and calories for under $5 (including the tip) while watching the armed security guards patrol the tables and kick out the drunks.

Five Points Bottle Shop is a great place to stock up on alcoholic beverages. It has locations in Five Points and West Side.

Try The Grill for late night dining. You won't be sorry.

A new brewery opened up downtown since last year's homecoming. It's a block north of the 40 watt. I haven't been yet but I like the beers I've had. The tour schedule and other info can be found here:

There's also terrapin brewery which is about a 10 minute drive from downtown but well worth the trip.

The Grill is fine for post show grub, but I have a nasty habit of leaving things behind.
I blame the Grill, and Clams. It could not be my regular post show frame of mind.

Oops! Trapeze is on there twice (you can delete the first listing because that place doesn't deserve a top spot, heh heh)

mama's boy should be on there for breakfast spots, the only thing not to like about that place is the line to get a table on the weekends

Last Resort is an Athens classic and is a pretty good place to eat. Great food, a little expensive but definitely upscale southern.

I've only been to Speakeasy once, and it was a while back, so I can't really comment there. The tapas were pretty good, though a bit high priced.

I have loved NONA for a long time - I dig Cajun (married one) and they do a good job of it. I could eat those deep-fried crawfish all day long. The sherry crab soup was great last time I had it, and they make a mean read beans and rice & gumbo ain't bad. If I want raw oysters though, I go to Sea Bear (fresher/more variety tho more expensive unless you hit happy hour).

So suppose someone I know wants to upgrade from a pay-by-the-minute flip phone to something which won't break his pocketbook when having indecently long conversations and that someone was going to be in Atlanta and then Athens this weekend and--just supposing, now--that someone wanted to get such a phone while he was traveling because, let's face it, you aren't going to find a good deal on a phone in the sort of mid-sized midsouthwestern megapolis that said someone might live in, well, what then?
