If I could have seen Friday night's show at the Theatre or another, better venue it would have been a live music highlight of my life. Instead I left feeling sad, disappointed, and wondering why some chick called me "South Georgia Trash" in response to my "excuse me" as I tried to get back to my friends with a round of beers.

Sounds like a mancave experience.

Another Homecoming in the books!

Great weekend. This one was special for me because my son accompanied me to Homecoming. He moved into Athens with me last week and is trying to establish himself in this town, applying for jobs, meeting new friends, etc...

I no longer have to worry about traveling to Homecoming as I now live in Athens. It gives me a different perspective. Nuci's Space is indispensable for the music community here. I have used their services this past month and am grateful to have such an organization available. The support from the Three Dimes Down community results in so much good work.

Having all of you visit my adopted hometown is a privilege. I don't think I stopped smiling from the moment we arrived on Monday night.

I may have swapped spit w/one too many Wiscy boys when passing the Makers, 'coz I was down for the count on Saturday. My back hurt like hell, which may have occurred when I went horizontal during Friday's show. Don't remember falling, but I do remember getting hoisted back up. I absolutely blame Clams who forced a couple of shots of Jameson on me just before the show. I had innocently gone to the Courtyard to pick up my I Blame Clams T-shirt & who do I run into but Clams. I couldn't just brush him off w/o raising suspicion, so I took one for the team & drank his whiskey.

Much to my chagrin I missed the Saturday show. I was nauseous, my back was killing me & I had splinters in my left hand (and when I say splinters I'm talking 10-11 splinters). I think I got the splinters when I hugged the telephone pole Friday night on my walk back to the Daze. Was really bummed that I couldn't make the show; but thankful I got to see Friday's epic performance. Lydia was just crazy good & the Truckers followed up with a killer set.

Thanks to Joe for getting us all together Friday afternoon. It was great to see everybody again. Bill thought he was the shit with his Pearl Jam socks, but Joe trumped him with his Domonique Wilkens socks. I missed the Nuci's auction & that was disappointing too. Wish I had paced myself better. You would think a seasoned veteran like myself would know better. I'd like to say I will be less full tilt next year; but that would be disingenuous.

Roadtripping w/Bill is always a delight. This trip's highlight was when we played Bill & DBT trivia. That's where I had to guess whether Bill had seen the band more times at the 40 Watt or in more different states. I took the states & was right (38 states vs. 29 40 Watt shows). Never a dull moment with Worldwide.

Somehow, my travel plans end up being screwed up even when I'm responsible. I Did The Right Thing this year for work, skipped Thursday and rescheduled that vacation day for today. Now I am sitting in a hotel in Memphis unable to get home and burning a vacation day while everyone else is taking a snow day.

I shouldn't have let my pride beat out my practicality. Taking that flight home yesterday morning would have been cheaper in the long run. I'm beginning to wonder if "live and learn" means I live till I die and then I learn something useful. Kind of like Odin's eye.

Not to excuse it, but the woman who bent my ear all through Space City about how the fight started told me about the guy who started it by punching someone for no reason. He, like her, is from Thomasville. So it might have been spillover from the fight, especially if it was over on stage left after Margo and Harold.

Evidently Saturday was tough for heAthens. Slipkid missed the show, Helen from England was out sick, and I barely made it through pressed up against the back wall feeling like I was going to puke the whole time.

The Athens crud. This is what we don't tell new HC people about. It's the land of a thousand hugs but with the hugs come the germs. I'm fighting something off myself but not down for the count so far.

No need for a roll call but just from the folks I know who got sick, the list is actually substantially longer. This thread is starting to sound like an AARP discussion group.

I'll admit I was thinking about the Georgia Theater shows already and whether there might be seats there. I'm not sure I'm up to three nights in a row on my feet boogieing and bouncing on a hard concrete floor again.

Whew what a three days! So great to catch up with all our DBT friends and to make some new ones like always. Shows were off the chain, Friday's might have been the best I have seen. Friday's 3DD gathering was a blast. As always the Nuci's Space event was fun. One specific highlight for me was watching Friday's show and looking over and Mike Mills from REM was standing next to me diggin the show. Too Cool. Thanks to all who help put on the events!

Saturday night was great, being that it was the only show of the run that we were able to make it to I feel we got more than our moneys worth. I had hoped to meet up earlier in the day with Gary and Clams and finally share the beer I've owed him for like 5 years now, but it just wasn't in the cards. I guess there's always next year

Finally made it to my first HC after the debacle last year. I'm so glad we were able to spend a week in Athens. And can I say that is still not enough time. It was so great to meet the folks I have not been able to before now, and see so many familiar faces. My mind is totally blown away by the whole experience. I thank the Winsconsin boys (or as my phone likes to correct to the Escort boys) for taking care of me in Cooleyville. Also thanks to TC for using my I Blame Clams pics. Here's another not as great one.

Image

I felt a tiny bit bad for taking advantage of these poor guys who couldn't hold their liquor, but then you can just blame Clams.

Now I sit back at work for my 12 hour long Monday with the Athens crud I picked up. I guess I couldn't say I didn't get the full experience without it.
When the lights came up we all went home but never quite the same.

I'm oddly looking forward to the 2016 post homecoming flu. I always knew the rock show was a contributor but staying 3 nights at the Dazed Inn is good for at least a 48 hour virus and other assorted stomach ailments.

See you in 2016. I want to move back, dang it.
