Here's one guy's interpretation:

My alltime favourite Cooley composition is another Brighter Than Creation's Dark track, "A Ghost to Most", a stirring indictment of the Dubya-led war in Iraq. I love it when he slyly compares the ex-President's twisted vision to that of a KKK member: "Talkin' tough is easy when it's other people's evil and you're judging what they do or don't believe/Seems to me you'd have to have a hole in your own to point a finger at somebody else's sheet."

Okay, I guess Ill give my 2 cents worth. I thought the sheet part was in reference to people stereotyping middle-eastern folks all the while ignoring the hate here in America. I came to that conclusion based on my thinking that this song was also about the war. But what the fuck do I know.
Re: DBT Tracks - Week #8 - Ghost to Most
One of my favorite opening lines of any song ever written.
For what it's worth, I thought the line about pointing a finger at somebody else's sheet was about a rap sheet. Maybe not a technical rap sheet, but a list of complaints or faults or wrongdoings that you have against another person. If I'm going to point out all of the faults you have on your sheet, I'm going to have to ignore all of the items listed on my sheet. Something like that.

I love Neff's steel work on this one. Really really nice.
Cooley's mom isn't dead though. I saw her a few weeks ago.

Fool No Where wrote:I think it's addressing hypocrisy of some sort. Your own sheet has to be pretty threadbare in order for you to be able to point out the deficienies of another.
I think of a Dire Straits lyric from the song Solid Rock when I hear Cooley's line:
And when you point your finger 'cause your plan fell through
You got three more fingers pointing back at you
Also, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

You should have asked her if Cooley brought her flowers and tracked dog shit all across the floor.wolfgang wrote:Cooley's mom isn't dead though. I saw her a few weeks ago.
By the time you drop them I'll be gone
And you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life

Around the 19 minute of this interview, Cooley is asked about Ghost to Most. The interviewer asks Cooley what he was on when he wrote Ghost to Most. If you got 25 minutes to kill, this interview is priceless if you haven't heard it already. Both are in rare form.

Think I missed this performance back when it was originally posted in March.

When I got Cooley's autograph at the Amoeba in-store, I made him laugh twice, first when I told him my daughter said that, next to cotton candy, Gravity's Gone was her favorite thing, which got a chuckle, and again when I told him she thought A Ghost to Most was a "Jesus song", which got something very close to a belly laugh from him.

Anyone got any ideas about what the sideburn line means? I asked on the FB group and got some interesting responses.

re: sideburn
dude thinks he's good looking and/or smart and thinks he should have grown sideburn(s) to frame his good looks and/or intellect.
still does not add up for me...but it's all i got.

"I guess I'll never grow a sideburn...it's a shame with all I've got to go between."
I've always taken the sideburns as a frame for his big brain...meaning the speaker thinks he's really smart or has a large medulla oblongata (in the words of Adam sander in "Waterboy").
I think it's a particular clever way of saying the speaker fancies himself intelligent.
Yes, this should be studied in an English lit class!

I just assumed it was a tongue in cheek, self deprecating line that fit the meter.
