Man, I so wish I could have been there for this momentous occasion in DBT history! How full up was the place?

I should have also sidled up to the stage. SIGH. But a wonderful show. I didn't get "my jam" ("Natural Light"), but I got "Women Without Whiskey" (my favorite song), "Runaway Train" (a first for me), and "Shit Shots Count" with HORNS! Great night!

Wait. There was an 11 oclock curfew for a rock show in new york city???????? How is that possible. Back in the day, the second show at the academy of music didn't start until 11:30, to say nothing of the clubs that didn't open til midnite or thereabouts. WTF?
What used to be is gone and what ought to be ought not to be so hard

It is a bullshit union thing. What DBT should have done was have no opening act at this show. Especially for their first show headlining this historic venue. But as Cooleygirl stated, I was also proud of the boys. Very good crowd and what was played was played with conviction. My first Runaway Train which Patterson made a funny comment that Adam's House Cat would have never played a venue like the Beacon. Great seeing everyone and meeting some new.

Perhaps somewhere where Tony left his heart?

How full was the Beacon during DBT? I know it was their first time playing there and was just wondering what size crowd they were able to draw.

re: The 11:00 curfew. It is a union thing. Unlike many of the clubs in NYC, the theaters are a union shop. The stage is set up and broken down by guys in the union. If they work past a certain time -- either 12:00 or 12:30 AM -- they get paid overtime. That gets expensive and, most likely, that would come out of the band's end.
The show itself? The place appeared to be about 80 percent full.

A second past 11:00 would have cost a few thousand dollars. They had a digital clock with big numbers (I could read it from the audience) facing them. Grand Canyon started at 10:47 and ended at 10:59
Always go to the show

I was in the loge, which was about 60 percent full. The orchestra looked more like 80 percent. Don't know about the balcony, which was likely much less populated. Frankly, it seemed like an odd time for the band to makes it Beacon debut, having already played the New York market twice this year (once in a nearby venue on Long Island); hopefully, the group's long-loyal local promoter (Bowery Presents) will keep the faith.

Down in Cooleyville where the vid for Women without Whiskey was shot, is always a rowdy time when Mr. Cooley launches into this classic. As this dude was next to me filming, apologize if I caused it to tumble.... Hey man, enter Cooleyville at your own risk...
