I'll be trying to watch this one again when I'm not at work... Had to cut it short. Nothing says "I'm clearly not working" like watching videos that revolve around provocatively dressed women with your headphones on.

There are 2 possibilities:

This video is so good and so arty/artful that it's way above my head; or
This video is really bad.

I'm leaning towards the latter. I might be concerned that my beloved drive by truckers have taken the easy way out and tried to let a pretty woman sell their music for them, but I don't think the video's good enough to raise concerns about objectification, sexism, etc. For example, that push up bra thing going on in the bathtub scene is not sexy, it's laugh out loud funny. ("Where the heck did THOSE come from??!")

First misstep in the entire EO "project" so I'm not gonna spend a lot of time thinking or writing about it.

OTOH if anyone's got some insight that would support alternative "a" above, I'd love to hear about it.

It doesn't seem that far off the theme of the song - That bible-carrying person may be an angel or a devil....one is penitent and looks to it for cleansing, the other misuses it for its own purposes...but both carry it just the same, so be aware and beware.

There is nothing punk rock about that video. It is the most formulaic thing I think they've ever done. I thought Patterson was supposed to be a cinema guy? Ugh... It's basically a mainstream fashion shoot; all style and no substance and not very interesting style either. Insipid, It's like a parody of a music video. It's a discredit to the song. Gorgeous model. Good casting there, but nobody's beautiful enough to redeem that.

That video is really weird. I'm not sure who looks creepier, Cooley or the girl. It would be cool if there was an alternate version where the girl gets shot and killed by the police like This Fucking Job.

The song is amazing. I would never disparage the song. It's brilliant, subtle, subversive and layered. The way it considers Machiavellian political tactics through a pop culture lens is so interesting, compelling and provocative. And musically, it rocks.

The song does not deserve to be partnered with such a heavy handed, cliché festival of a video.

Though there are some things to be learned from the vid, among them;

-When you put on your best dominatrix outfit and you feel like such a dirty, dirty bad girl, lying in the bathtub won't make you feel better...

-A single page of the Bible is unexpectedly filling making it virtually impossible to eat the whole thing in one sitting (especially while wearing a corset).

-The push-up bra is truly a miracle of modern engineering.

-Your boobs will still look amazing in a Studio 54 era, Halston-inspired halter dress and they will feel so much more comfortable and less smooshed. (Woah: Oppressive lingerie as political metaphor!?)

-You think you don't have a chance with the gorgeous, pious virgin from across the street? Before you give up, have a look at her feet. Is she wearing super-slutty looking stilettos under that white dress? Woah... Things are looking up.

I wonder what's next. Pauline Hawkins dressed as a porno nurse? ...in a video where she finally finds love with a handsome young doctor?
