New Orleans - Civic Theatre - May 2 & 3, 2014

Post by Lurleen McQueen »

TC & LMcQ are in!

Here is my fervent prayer to the Rock Universe...

Trombone Shorty is in town from May 1 - 4 for Jazzfest. It would be super awesome if he could just swing by long enough to sit in on Shit Shots Count.

And...I need one of the math wizards to check the old spreadsheet to see when the last time State Trooper was covered. Fingers crossed for NOLA to be the show where it re-appears in rotation.

I'll see y'all at Cafe' du Monde.

In for May 2nd, hoping I can make the 3rd but can't push it.. The Civic Theater is 1.6 miles from where we're staying in the Quarter.. Can't wait!

I just saw Benjamin Booker is opening these shows. I had to Google him to see what he's about, I really dug what I heard. Is anyone else here familiar with him?

My girlfriend and I are IN as well.

Staying at the Prytania Park in the Garden District. Be there through Monday.

Hoping to catch some of the last day of Jazz Fest festivities on Sunday the 4th.

Can't wait for this.

And Trombone Shorty would be groovy as hell.

TW, if you're local we really need to meet up. Lets try and line something up for 4/19- if not at Twist and Shout then at the Fillmore.

Agreed. Yep, I'm local.

Work at Westword. Split time in Park Hill and Highlands areas (my house and my g/f's house).

We should work something out for 4/19 for sure.

As Lurleen and I have been discussing this trip, and waiting no so patiently, conversation has turned to food as it oh so rightly should but yesterday I remembered ice cream and the Creole Creamery

This is the shit folks. I would plan on a pilgrimage.

How is it possible that I haven't heard of this place?

I do not know but next time in NOLA you MUST make it a priority. I've seen them featured on food shows a couple of times now.

Wow! I'd love to see DBT in NOLA.

My wife and I have been to NOLA many, many times, in part because we've always found reasonable accommodations. Check around if you're going. We've stayed at the Hotel Monteloeone (great historic hotel where Hemingway also stayed) very reasonably, and we stayed at the Omni once for something like $60 or $70 per night.

So many good restaurants....the nice, expensive ones are excellent, but we've also had great food at some of the more "hole in the wall" types of places.

Like I said, I won't be there in body, but my heart, stomach, ears, and spirit will be!

Beaverdam, we love NOLA too and try get their often but not so reasonable this time around for us. We're staying in Metarie at a Holiday Inn that we've stayed at before for half the price but hey, it's Jazz Fest weekend so what the hell right? Rooms in the Quarter were $300 plus. Still it's fine and we're gonna have a blast! Jonesing for a Parkway surf & turf Poor Boy (yep, there they are poor boys as opposed to Po' Boys) with debris, maybe some barbecue shrimp or a trip to Felix's and whatever else we find. Cannot wait! Wish y'all could make it.

I think Royal Reds might be in season by next week. Or maybe it's closer to Memorial Day - I hope not.

Do single day tickets sell out? I really want to do an afternoon but at this point I want to wait and see how mom is feeling, etc. She's turning 70 and I don't want to overload her with stuff. Also, does the Civic Theater have seats or a balcony? My fiancee is pregnant so I'd like to make this as comfortable as possible for her. Yep, I'm doing NOLA w a 70 yr old mom and a pregnant fiancee

We have locked in some solid food reservations: Antione's, Irene's and Sunday brunch at Commander's Palace
