Dragon/Stoner?
I think I understand this verse but wanted to get other's thoughts.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The night the practice room caught fire
there were rumors of a dragon headed straight for Muscle Shoals
"Stoner tries to save an amplifier"
and it's like the dragon's side of the story is never told
When the dream and the man and the girls hang around long enough
to make you think it's coming true,
it's easier to let it all die a fairy tale,
than admit that something bigger is passing through

Re: Dragon/Stoner?
I remember a big thread about this song on 9B. If I recall, there was once actually a fire in the room where they were rehearsing. I also remember that there were a few 9B members with first hand knowledge of whatever went down that night.
Everyone needs a friend, everyone needs a fuck
Re: Dragon/Stoner?
Yes, it may have its roots in a fire in the practice room, but in this song it is a metaphor. And because of this, it is open to interpretation.

Re: Dragon/Stoner?
Yes, It was me that had first hand knowledge of the fire in the practice room. It was in 1990 above the Smokehouse Pool Hall on Tennessee Street in Florence (right next to the Shoals Theater). It was Stained Mecca's practice room and it happened right after I left the band. Chris (Monster) Quillen was lead guitarist for Stained Mecca at that time and had just started playing with The Fiddleworms as well. I may be way off but I think Monster = Dragon.
The again maybe it had nothing to do with any of that

I have nothing substantial to add except that the Shokehouse Pool Hall has one hell of a chili cheesburger and Yuengling on tap.

Re: Dragon/Stoner?
I'm usually pretty good at suss'ing out metaphorical stuff, but that's one song that a whole lot of just flies over my head.
Not forever, just for now.

Amen, that stuff is swill, can't believe they took it southward and were able to create some kind of cult following. But cheeseburgers

My wifes family is from pottsville pa and thats all they drink. At our wedding, which wasnt in pottsville but was in southern DE, I got a keg of dogfish 60 min IPA but the only tap they had was a yuengling tap. Her whole side of the family thought it was yuengling so they started pounding it, then they thought it was some kind of new yuengling. They got hammered off it, which sucked because I was expecting it to last a while and wanted more, but they couldnt believe it when I told them it was dogfish, and wouldnt stop drinking it. I thought maybe i had converted a few, but they went back to yuengling. Why would I serve yuengling when dogfish is 20 min away? Most of her family sucks too, another reason i dont like yuengling, lol, or the eagles.
Sorry to stray from the story.

Re: Dragon/Stoner?
Yuengling's not bad for a basic beer. Can't say anything bad about the porter or Lord Chesterfield either. But I grew up stealing Rolling Rock ponies from my dad so I'm biased towards blue collar PA beer. It sure beats hell out of PBR and Natty Boh, that's for sure.
That said, it sure as hell ain't no Dogfish 60. A keg of that? Man, talk about good living!

I still can't believe the Yuengling drinkers kept hitting the Dogfish, usually people used to drinking that kind of beer complain about how things like an IPA are too heavy or too bitter or blah blah blah. Props to them, even if they went back to the Yuengling in the end

Yuengling is the most overrated beer I've ever had.
Too bad many of you can't get Grain Belt Premium. Best damn basic lager there is.

I thought the reason I couldn't get it is because it was no longer being brewed. Very limited distribution.

and it's like the dragon's side of the story is never toldno one likes a natural disaster, no true explanation of God's making natural disasters and the people who live through me losing everything

the "dragon" may refer to grunge, coming to kill off the hair-band dreams or some shit
