I bought my ticket yesterday.

I'm going to be of town a lot this fall* and was worried I may be gone when they come through Birmingham, so I figured I'd rather make a road trip to potentially see them twice this time around instead of risking not catching them at all.

*Seems like every time I have to go out of town for work, a great concert gets scheduled.

I'm looking forward to it! No--I'm not just looking forward to it, I'm freaking pumped!!!!!

The legendary 6 String Drag will be opening this show. Though they're largely associated with the Triangle region of North Carolina, there are some strong Athens ties there as well (Rob Keller is currently an Athens resident and is a member of the Welfare Liners there, I'm sure he's also been in tons of other Athens bands over the years). After a long hiatus they are turning in some of their first shows since 2005 and are presently at work on a new album as well as some archival releases. Earlier this year, they played to a packed house at the Pour House in Raleigh. If you so desire, you can go to their website to check out a few clips from that show. Been meaning to do an AOTW feature on them and Kenny Roby for a while but this will have to do for now.

Indeed, they are. I believe this is only something like their fourth full band show since reuniting. This is from their first reunion show earlier this year at the Pour House in Raleigh.

Oh ok:) I don't know who that guy is, but he's awesome and fun to watch. I saw him at an Isbell show last spring in Knoxville and then he popped up again at Buster's in Lexington in June. Mid-20s looking white guy, has a Cooley bird on his right shoulder, and the most excited fan I have EVER seen at any rock show.

I'm really questioning going to the Wilmington show. As of now there's not an opening act but the venue has a 10pm curfew. I'm not crazy about the drive and hotel if it's going to be a 16-18 song "curfew" show.
