Great performance last night. Probably the best late night performance that I remember seeing them play.
Re: Conan March 6th!
That's awesome, TC. "If Charlie Watts can do it with just one tom and a floor tom, why can't I do it with no toms?" As a drummer myself, it's really an impressive feat to record an album like English Oceans with one tom fill. EZB is like the anti Neil Peart. Casually listening to EO I would never have guessed there's only one tom fill on the whole ALBUM.

It looks like Cooley's running a Princeton Reverb, the other two are playing Deluxe Reverbs and Matt is playing through an Ampeg - I'll take a stab and say that it's all back line gear. Jay usually plays with a Deluxe, but Patterson usually uses something with a little more iron - a Pro Reverb or a Vibro King. I've only ever seen Matt play with a Kustom.

This was so good. I haven't seen them perform these songs yet so this all new and exciting! God, though, that performance was probably my favorite TV performance of them I've seen in a long time. Jay looks great up there in that role.

Was it me, or did it sound like there were keyboards even though nobody was playing them?

Me too, but I thought the sibilance bore a resemblance to the overexuberance on Pizza Deliverance.
Kick out the jams motherfuckers.

Oh my god, I cannot stop laughing at Guido the killer pickle!
The guys really laid it out there last night. I have heard people crying about the loss of this band member or that band member for years, and I've always said that DBT will not only survive, but continue to be BAD ASS. Man, am I glad they keep proving me right with such ferocity!

That was their best TV performance, and it's not even close.

Wonder what happened to Brad's snare - looks like he was using a borrowed one...it certainly seemed to be tuned much tighter/higher than normal.

How is Conan doing these days as far as ratings go? Been awhile since I watched the show.
Watched it with OnDemand this morning. Couldn't fast forward. Enjoyed it.

It looked like everything except their guitars was "rented" gear. Their actual stuff was probably at the club they played that night

I think this one and Birthday Boy on Fallon are their two best by a wide margin

Gaetzi wrote:Rocking performance!! Great stuff.
The two things that jumped out at me 1) Tempo. Much like Self Destructive Zones, it seems like the live version of SSC will be played at a quicker tempo than the studio version. Not a bad thing but they flew right through it. 2) EZB! Homeboy didn't have any toms and only one cymbal. High hat, snare, bass drum and ride cymbal, that's some scaled down shit for a drummer. Which got me thinking, does the studio version not have any tom fills? Either way, pretty cool to play such a rocking number with such a minimal kit.
The quicker tempo may have had more do to with the time they were allotted. I've seen other bands play faster and even shorten or remove a verse when playing on the talk shows.

I'd have to throw "Everybody Needs Love" from Letterman in there as well.

Why are we assuming that it wasn't done in front of an audience? having been to a taping of Conan I can say that it'd be pretty tough to get the audience in the shot from where they film the bands/comedians.

And supposedly, he'd never asked ANY other musical guest to do that!

That kicked ass!! Definately their best late night performance. A good one from a ways back is "Hell No I Ain't Happy" from the "Craig" before the "Craig Ferguson" version of "the Late Late Show".

Was Cooley using a Fender amp on Conan? I didnt see a Sommatone anywhere up there.
