Not really what i was expecting for a Bay Area appearance... would love a Fillmore date, but since this is an A.P.E. event, i'd suspect we'd get one of the venues they work with like the Mezzanine, if they book a solo DBT show at all, which i really wish they do, i need a straight up RAWK show. Either way, it'll be great to see them on such a historic spot for Bay Area music...now let's get some more dates.
The Oakland Fox Theatre is another APE venue... but I heard the sound system is cheesy... it's too bad, its a gorgeous building, inside and out.
Yeah, i'd love to see them get booked into the Fox on Friday, seems a little unlikely unless the Greek sells out quickly... secretly hoping they get booked into the Catalyst or Rio Theater in Santa Cruz, see a bunch of other A.P.E. artists getting booked there on their way to SF gigs, hoping that's the case. BTW: got a really positive review of Willies show up here a few weeks ago from a friend who isn,t a huge Willie fan, but sees a ton of shows, so that is encouraging. As is the Shovels and Rope clips posted above. Should be fun if the weather cooperates at the Greek...
take a deep breath and throw yourself into it with everything you got...it's great to be alive!

See you in Hollywood.
Just bought my ticket for the LA show.Gonna be a great one.
I thought they were great. I was not familiar with them but they put on a fun, short set. I will definetly be checking them out again when they come to sacramento in a couple weeks.
Shovels and Rope were killer.. The whole night was killer! Not a knock on Shovels and Rope but I'd like to see them in a smaller space. The Greek stage is enormous for two people. DBT set was awesome but way too short at exactly one hour. I think Patterson lost his voice which is why Cooley played two in a row. You could tell how psyched thy were to be playing the Greek. My favorite tune was the MUEO, it had a great, almost spacey or ambient groove. In general, there's a lot of space for the music to breath right now, I think the band is sounding awesome. And I'm always psyched to hear Uncle Frank.
The Greek is a beautiful venue and the walk through campus is equally beautiful. Just a wonderful evening of music! Willie was great as well, the crowd ate it all up.
I thought that musically the band sounded fantastic, and I understood they wanted to play a lot of songs off the new album, but I thought it was too many mid-tempo songs in a row, broken up mostly by slow ones. It didn't give the audience a chance to see them really catch fire.
That said, they were well-received, with one lady in sheer dress wanting to know more about Matt ("he looks so *sweet*!"), and one gal stunned by Cooley ("oh my god! He's HOT.")
Cooley said it was one of the most pleasant days he's spent in a long time. And he said "hello, Berkeley, California" instead of San Francisco like so many nimrods do, so points for that.
I enjoyed myself quite a bit.

I agree. It was nice that he said Berkeley, all the people around us noticed. It is crazy how many musicians come to that venue and they all think it is San Francisco. I'm really looking forward to more than an hour set here in these next two weeks. Last night was a nice warm up, especially since it has been two years since I have caught a truckers show.

Spill it.
Everybody but EZB came out for the last 4 songs along with Willie's daughter and Tim Flannery (Giants 3rd base coach). You will find pictures on the DBT facebook page. They sang along to Will the Circle Be Unbroken, I'll Fly Away, Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die, and I Saw the Light. The big goofy smiles were fantastic.

Gracias Senior. I was curious about this. I guess those are more or less standards (except maybe roll me up) so they could at least fake their way through it one way or another.
By the time you drop them I'll be gone
And you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life

They looked pretty comfortable with the songs, Cooley and Matt in particular.

no tapers in the house for this? Would love to hear the songs with Mickey Raphael on harmonica, but haven't seen a recording surface or even anything on the youtube...
