Nice work on the sound and video John!!! It will be a pleasure to see them in Athens. I am still amazed when the young ones are able to perform with such a classic, soulful sound that sounds great today, but would also fit in well in earlier decades.

Other than "grow a pair," any advice on how to get a hall pass from a wife who works, with two young children, two dogs, does the homework, etc. I'd KILL to make Homecoming, but trying to figure out how. She's not the sweet talkin' type - I'd have to work out some sort of deal. The person who gives me the idea that gets me to Homecoming gets free drinks all weekend. Bring 'em.

Homecoming is my present for the year - no birthday, anniversary or chanukah/christmas presents for me from my wife. I get the better of that deal I'm sure, and my kids are older so the child care issues aren't really there so that makes the wkend less burdensome for her than it would be for your wife, but it's still a pretty good deal for her - the economics are pretty good for the family budget, she never has to worry about coming up w/ present ideas, shopping or wrapping and my gratitude and guilt pay regular benefits in the months before and after (honey, let me get that for you...what can i get for you at the store...etc etc).

As far as straight trades go, make a straight trade: You take 4 days and spend $1,000, she gets 4 days and $1,000 (or be a sport and throw in a little extra )

Buy her something special at a charity auction. I don't know her tastes/interests, but there are usually interesting and offbeat things available at the bigger ones: cooking lessons w/ a celebrity chef, a spa wkend, a chance to meet a favorite athlete or entertainer, tickets for a big game or event, etc

Simply appeal to her sense of decency. "This means a lot to me would you mind if I went? " You could also plan ahead and schedule sleepovers for your kids, rides to basketball practice, play dates, etc to help lessen her load. And yeah, giving her an IOU for a future weekend off can't hurt.

My "trick" has been to get my wife to love DBT and the homecoming experience as much as I do (almost). This has become our yearly getaway every bit as much as our family trip to the beach on July 4th is. We have a rotating group of friends and family who know that they will be watching our kids and dogs on that weekend which helps. If Patterson ever plays 18 Wheels of Love for her I may not be able to keep her off the 40 Watt stage!!!!

I went with Poker Daddys plan of making her love it as much as I did. She never really cared one way or another about the music, but fell instantly in love with many of the diehard pilgrims, and that was that. Up until her illness she was in for em all.
