If they need to skip Tuesday so they can play it Wednesday, I'm cool with that ;)

Exactly this. It sure is fun trying, though.

Been a while since I've posted, but I'm still out there. Will be at TLA with a hilarious old friend who has never seen this band. He does not know what he's in for.

I'm ready to get the dust blown off by some good old fashioned Alabama / Athens Ass Whuppin'.

Quite ready for the show. This is the only one I can remotely make it to. Original buddy bagged (without telling me - glad I double checked). Called up a lunatic old friend I've never had a normal evening with in my entire life. I'm almost scared of this evening but I am ready.

Clams, maybe I'll finally meet you live and in person.
My buddy made dinner plans but I'll be at the show and I do want to check out the Old 97's so we'll be there with plenty of time.

Best to all - travel safe and sound.

What was a daunting gameplan, just became damn near impossible. As it was I was gonna try to be @ work in D.C. by 6:00 a.m. on Wed. Figured I could make it & slough off the rest of the morning (I really only point @ shit & say hurry up on a normal day anyway). Sure I'd have a little road stink; but they've seen me lookin' pretty rough before. Now I have to go to some start-up meeting @ 8:00 a.m. in Annapolis for a remodel job on the House of Delegates. The cheese want me to look presentable & are even bringin' me button down shirts tomorrow. I can't imagine hungover road stink & runnin' on fumes is gonna fly no matter how many buttons my shirt has. It breaks my heart, but I'm gonna miss this show (and seeing all of you fine people too). Hope y'all have a blast & drink one for me.

I know. The last time I dressed for success was in Sister Mary Oliver's class in 1971.

Out

Because of the fucking furlough my company made me use all my leave and some that I didn’t have. I am now 26 hours in the hole on my leave balance for the year. Because of this I am not allowed to leave work early enough to make the three hour drive up to Philly tonight.

This kills me!

Yes that's close. Anything in Old City, Society Hill or South Street will be close. If you are anywhere in center city, I can give you a lift back to the hotel after the show.

Also staying at the Sheraton Society Hill. We're catching the train soon into the city. Hope to meet some of y'all. We've got our DBT gear on, so we'll be easy to spot.

Me, Bill, and non-3dder friend Peggie are in line. In a refreshing turn of events TLA staff are showing an impressive commitment to line justice. Props to them!

Best Tuesday night I've had in a loooong time. Was lucky enough to catch the sound check and then did some preshow bar hopping on South Street - was great to see so many familiar faces and catch up with everyone. Got a great spot up front right behind Bill and Uncle Rickey and next to Lynn and Guinness. Contrary to Cooleygirl's comments the other day, I liked the Old 97s' set. Rhett's a little too pretty and he shakes his ass too much but they're a tight band and they held my attention for their whole set even though I didn't know any of their songs. (Though if I had to listen to them every night like Cooleygirl, I'd probably get bored too). As for DBT, their set gave me everything I could have asked for: a hard rocking start and a set list that didn't let up, some songs that I was really hoping for (Sounds Better in the Song, Buttholeville w/ State Trooper - thank you for that, PH), some gems that caught me by surprise (Henry Drinks, Living Bubba, Don't Be in Love) and some awesome three guitar mashups - especially Play it All Night Long and Hell No. Great stuff. More: I did not miss John Neff one bit - as others have said, Jay more than holds his own on guitar. But I do miss the pedal steel and I really hope it comes back at some point. Wild Horses is ethereal - Cooley on acoustic, Patterson playing electric and singing. It's such an amazing song and they really do it justice - Gram Parsons would be proud. It was dedicated to Jay Leavitt and preceded by a story about how he was the first person to turn Patterson onto the Stones. I heard Cooley's new song English Oceans during soundcheck and it sounded great - I didn't catch the lyrics but I'd describe it as uptempo with kind of a rambling Johnny Cash/Little Bonnie vibe. Rumor has it that'll be the title of the new record too (am I allowed to say that?). Pretty much the only thing DBT could improve upon next time around is to change venues. The TLA is a dump and their bar prices are criminal ($23 for two beers!). Union Transfer has the same capacity with a bigger floor, better bar, much better sound and lighting, and it's a stunning room. Patterson if you're reading this, I'd love to see you guys there for your next sold out Philly show.

So anyway, like I said, I couldn't have asked for a better Tuesday night. I'll leave you with the line of the night: ...there ain't much to Philadelphia... sweat, piss, jizz, blood!! The mayor should make that the official motto and put it on the city's flag, website and tourism brochures, etc. Good times indeed.
