Lurleen & JimmyC in.

I've heard this casino has quite a colorful past including guests like Sinatra. Anyone know the backstory?

You might be thinking of the Cal-Neva (where I'm staying), which at one time, I'm almost certain, Sinatra owned. Plus I think it was featured in Godfather 2, when they took Fredo out on Lake Tahoe and he didn't come back

http://www.rudymaxa.com/article.php?ArticleID=154

from above link:

Cal Neva's history through the '40s and '50s is the stuff of novels. The lodge changed hands often (one can easily imagine how), going through a succession of owners named "Pretty Boy," "Bones," and "Baby Face." In 1960, Frank Sinatra bought the Cal Neva, and the hotel got some genuine celebrity cachet, thanks to a guest list that included John F. Kennedy, Dean Martin, and Marilyn Monroe. Liquor flowed, music played. Hip, remote, accessible by helicopter (Sinatra had a landing pad installed on the roof): Could there be a better place for a discreet rendezvous?

The Sinatra years were Cal Neva's heyday, but it came to an end when Sinatra lost a bet with the Nevada Gaming Control Board (mafioso Sam Giancana visited his friend's lodge after he'd been banned from the casino) that cost him his gaming license. Without the lure of slot machines, the Cal Neva couldn't compete with other casino hotels in Tahoe; Sinatra sold the property in 1963.

By far the best DBT experience i've had in a couple of years, since TDU '07.
Met up w/ WWCD at the hotel, had some drinks and a nice mexican dinner before the show.
Mini stage/venue. great crowd up front, new frineds from Southern Oregon made us feel at home, lot's of good vibes.
Show was great, the band brought the same energy packed show as the night before, even though the venue was a third of the size...
Hopefully a set list will surface, lot's of stellar moments, loved hearing Santa Fe, Girls Who Smoke, Drag the Lake Charlie.
Women w/out 2 Whiskey was sick...Patterson's solo version of Grandaddy to open the encore, so sweet!
Rockin in the Free World was great finale...
Show was a little over 2 hours, the casino is big on afterparty shows, so they kicked the DBT out about 11:30ish...
of course, being in a Nevada Casino, that meant it was time for the 12am-2 'Happy Hour', had to ride that out talking story w/ WWCD and other DBT-ites who were hanging out...All in all a GREAT nite for me, everything i had hoped for.
So glad that Patterson and Cooley got into the 'Saturday Night Business'...
take a deep breath and throw yourself into it with everything you got...it's great to be alive!

Was great to run into Jimmy C and Lurleen after finally meeting them just the day before, and always a treat to see Jason. Here's what I posted in the Fillmore thread re: Tahoe:I'm also in the "no words" camp. just got home from Tahoe, where the show was every bit as good as SF, totally toasted after being up way late last night and then white-knuckling it home in some pretty heinous snow this morning. I made it fine but it was, to say the least, nerve-wracking for a bit. So good to meet all the new faces and reconnect with peeps I had already met. I was a helluva weekend and I wish I could have continued onward to UT and CO. I'll probably have more lucid statements later but will close for now...... but one more thing: last night Patterson said something that summed a lot of things up when he said, "what's a Sunday night when you're in the Saturday night business?" Only difference between the band and us is that we pay and they get paid, but we're all in the same game.... or something like that

Didn't keep a Tahoe setlist, but lots of repeats. Standout "non-repeats" from the night before were Plastic Flowers, Heathens, Women w/o Whiskey, an enormously huge RITFW encore, and Granddaddy. I'm sure I'll remember more later, maybe
A few more standouts I remember now were Carl Perkins' Cadillac, Lookout Mountain, Self-Destructive Zones (which Cooley signals to the band by pointing a gun/finger at his head- nice code!). Surprised but happy to get Hell No I Ain't Happy, Zip City, and Sinkhole on consecutive nights. Also, the stage at Crystal Bay was w/o question the smallest stage I've seen them on, and it may be the smallest stage on which I've seen a major band play. At times I was worried that one of them was gonna smack another upside the head with a headstock!

add Daddy Needs a Drink

yet another thing to add: down front with Peter G, myself, and TOm & Lori from OR (pretty sure they lurk here), we were joined all night by a Brent Mydland-lookalike, circa 79-80, who was throwing down with the best of us

I had a great time like the others. I couldn't make San Fran due to Mother's Day stuff, but made the trip from Sacramento to NV. Well, ten steps into NV. Also my ears have been ringing for two days due to being right on top of the monitors, basically, right in front of Cooley and Shonna.

Got my Cooley jersey (Chris Cooley) signed by Mike.. I threw it on stage for Cooley and he got a laugh at it. Nothing better than a 35 year old guy taking his shirt off at a concert for the band. I partied hard, and I'm still feeling it today. I met Shonna and Jeff after the show. I was wasted and kept asking her why her bass' head was upside down. I never noticed that before. I think she was getting annoyed and told me 'it's how it was when I got it." Nevertheless, she was cool and I dropped the question.

Someone needs to get a setlist out. Highlights for me was Daddy Needs a Drink, Carl Perkins, and Hell No. I've never seen them live. I liked hearing the new songs live for the first time as well.

It was great seeing them in small, hole in the wall place. I got to bed around 3:30 and I had $140.00 bucks in my pocket. I went to the show with $60.00. After all the drinks, steak dinner, etc.. that's a good night at the black jack table! Thanks Truckers for a great night!

1st: RIP Brent... you've been missed all these years.

except for that poor sap who got taken out by security for puffing right after I handed it back to him  His lady turns to me and asked, "what just happened," so I told her that her dude had been busted by security. Then she struggled for some time deciding whether to stay and rock or to go after her dude. After looking like she was going to choose the rock, she went after her dude. Still, much respect for leaning that close to choosing the rock

just remembered something funny from this show: this one drunk kept swearing that the night before Mark Knopfler had played and recorded a live album in the Crystal Bay room. I knew there was no way in hell it was true, so I pretty much forgot it as soon as he said it (though he repeated it several times). So later on after the show me and PeterG are having several beers in the bar and I saw on their closed-circuit feed ads for recent and upcoming shows at the room. And what did I see, but that DAVID Knopfler had indeed played there the night before. Wonder how many loadies turned out thinking it was Mark

Still can't believe that some dumb chick would throw a drink at the ceiling and bathe the band...
What an ASS! Just glad they came back out an did that encore.
Rockin inthe Free World was SICK!
Still waiting for DMonkey to post the show...maybe tonight?

That dude thinking that David Knopfler was MARK Knopfler is still the funniest thing of the whole weekend...
crazy enough that DBT played that little spot, Mark Knopfler would have got back on the bus and bailed.
