Baltimore - 17 March 13

Post by Gang Green »

I'll start the thread for the Ram's Head. It's the closest show to me here in Central PA, so I got my ticket and I'm going. I'll just have to ramp-up on Old 97's who I'm not all that familiar with, but I got all the info I need from you guys on the Northeast tour thread, and I thank you. Maybe I'll get to Baltimore early and take the Wire tour. Or, we'll hit Chapps Pit Beef. Hoping to see Slipkid or Flying Rabbit, I'll even talk some Ravens if you guys can make it.

Just in case your interested, see Chaps on Drive-ins, Diners and Dives or whatever it's called:

And, this is supposed to be Chaps on the Wire, and I'll believe it is:

Oh, and Wee Bay taking one (or several for the team) for a pit beef with lots of horseradish sauce:

I will definitely be makin' this one GG. I saw Crack The Sky there last year & the remnants of Yes there 3-4 years ago. It is a good venue with a balcony that is slightly offskew. I will be glad to talk Ravens shit (and even Jets shit) with ya..

Unless your willing to rehash the 1969 NFL-AFL Championship Game, I'm not sure I'll be in the mood to talk about the Jets. We can talk York Revolution baseball with my fellow York County resident Gepman who, last I heard, was in for the Ram's Head.

My brother and I will be making our way down to Baltimore for this gig. Hoping to finally hear Drag The Lake Charlie. A rare Car Dealer War airing would be cool too.

I did see early on you guys were in, but that was before the whole discussion about who's headlining. Anyway, look forward to seeing you guys.

We're in.

Chaps is open 7 days 11-10. The real deal.

Another fan friendly venue on the east coast. Reasonably priced cocktails, good sound, lot's of other stuff within walking distance.

I don't see the connection, there's a lot of meat between the buns of a Chaps pit beef sandwich. Okay, maybe I've said too much.

Is Faidley as good as this site makes it sound? If so, I want to go there.

Anyone know about the Balcony situation at Ram's Head Live?
Is it comparable to the balcony at the 930 Club?
I usually prefer it (less jostling)...
Thanks!

Balcony is similar to the 9:30. It has bathrooms & a bar up there. Sightline to the stage is great if you're on the rail (of the balcony). It does not have the elevated arrangement that the 9:30 does.

Dang, this thing is coming up soon--isn't it?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm kinda bummed that this thing is at Ram's Head as opposed to Recher (RIP...soon). I've never really liked the sound or atmosphere there. Its definitely not the 9:30. That said, DBT will be on stage so it'll all be good.

As for the balcony, there is a tiered system in the back and on the sides. Haven't ever been up on them, but I'd imagine like Slip said, if you are on the balcony you should be good.

I keep editing...sorry. There also isn't a "front door" per se. They have some side halls that you can enter through. Last show I went to, they opened the doors closest to the middle of the line--which benefited me because I was late. But it sucked for people who got there early. Not sure if this is usual procedure. There is parking inside the complex with Ram's Head which you can park at and literally never step outside. Or you can park somewhere down at HarborPlace and walk in. Not bad if its not rainy or cold.

Thanks Slip and Flying Rabbit for the venue / balcony info.

Yeah, losing the Recher is gonna suck... RIP.

Just realized Uncle Ricky is not going to be at this one. Who's going to post the set list? It can't be me since I have no short term memory and I can't operate a hand held to save my life. I'm not counting on Slip either.

Good question GG. I'll take the first song & the last one, if you can cover the rest.

This is the best crab cake in the Baltimore area. Hands down.
http://gandmcrabcakes.com/

Just south of the City.

Unfortunately Andy Nelsons (http://andynelsonsbbq.com/) isn't open on Sun. Would recommend that one too.

Most of the places around the Ram's Head are pretty lame - the Joe's Squared is a good option and the bier garden is good for a few pints. Fells Point is a short walk away and worth it. Couple good Irish spots and can't go wrong with the beer selection @ Max's Taphouse.

Happy St. Pattys, as advised by DBT pace yourselves and see you at the rock show.

Things are hoppin' right outside the venue. A cover band, wearing kilts, is plain' in the street. 3 or 4 bars/beer gardens are in the immediate vicinity (incl. Joe Squared). Awfully hard to pace myself with all these temptations.

Old 97s were better than the 1st 2 nights I saw them. Definitely brought their A game. Truckers were crazy good. Don't Be In Love Around Me has been cranked up a notch. I approve. Baltimore crowd was less refined than the Northern heathens. I got a couple of slugs of Patron. Life is good.
