Favorite Patterson Lyric?

Post by MattfromMass »

I am new to this board, this is my first post, and I have only been reading it for a few months. I am not sure if this has been posted before. If it has, kindly redirecting me and I'll read up. I wanted to know what people's favorite PH lyrics were. Cooley might have the more colorful word play but, Patterson's lyrical strength lies in his ability to say things so truthfully. Two of my favorites are:

"If I could solve the world's problems, I'd probably start with hers and mine"
and

"It's big and it's twisting and shaped convoluted
It don't have a function but you better salute it"

You're blossoming all over, while I whither on the line. I just called to tell you that I hope you're doing fineeeee.

Turning mountains into oceans, putting people on the moon.

She said: I can bend my arms until they're backwards, but you can't bend your will to take in mine, and I could hold my breath until next Wednesday and still be doing fineeeee.
Heading to HC Friday and Saturday - first timer!

You say it’s these things I do, about me that’s attracted you, so if I started doing something else, what would we have left?

These times can take their toll sometimes and I know you feel the same way too
It just gets so hard to keep between the ditches
When the roads wind the way they do.

And I never hear a single word you say
When you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same ol shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.

And I never have a shortage of people trying to warn me
of the dangers I pose to myself.

Today these 2 are hitting a sweet spot with me:

Just sometimes don’t do what I ought to, sometimes I yes when I should no.

It’s a little too late for writing love songs, but I never did anything on time.

"Tornadoes" has been running through my head today. I live just out of Hattiesburg and we had a bad one go through yesterday. Luckily it went about two miles north of here so we had no damage at my house. But it destroyed a lot of homes and businesses. That's the first really bad tornado we've had here in a long time. It made the song a little too real.

Simply disappear
and vanish into thin air
Sometimes its much better to just not be there.

And sometimes I hear words
spoken underneath the song and I associate so freely

And sometimes I hear words
spoken underneath the song and I associate completely

she'd read her stories of little girls with magic powers that would never ever let a pretty angel hurt

that's the most devastating line I've ever heard. I can't even type it without getting a knot in my throat...

Don't give me no preachin' no self servin'
And I ain't no angel but nobody's deserving

They say every man's house should be his palace
But his castle stank of cat shit and alone

And I’m driving north as the sun was rising over a Technicolor horizon
I reached out to touch you but you’re not there, a thousand miles away from here
I turned up the radio; heard some preacher talking salvation
My tank is half full and I reached over and changed the station

Hard to chose, so many great PH lyrics. Being somewhat of a gearhead, I would have to say.....

So many to chose from but this would have to be right up there:

I see my past in everything that I despise
I see my future and I'm scared to close my eyes
Is that my ghost that I see in my fears
Or just my reflection in my Mama's tears?

I don't know - all of 'em?

If I were forced to choose, I'd pick this:

"Ain't about the races
It's a cryin' shame
To the fuckin' rich man
All poor people look the same"

And about a hundred or so more!

I go back and forth with my favorite Cooley lyrics, but lately I just can't get enough of the "keep yr drawers on, girl" bit of Zip City.

I don't want to hear about fun dates and soul mates while I sit contemplate alone,
You'll be droppin' acid making love in the moonlight while I'm grindin' on this guitar and getting stoned!
