When is the last time you have been there? They renovated more than two years ago and moved the stage to between the two support poles.

I think I'll be at Sunset Cantina (NOT sunset cafe!) no later than 5:01pm. Perhaps even earlier if I can get my work act together. :)

916 Commonwealth Ave. Just a block away from Paradise.

I hope to see the rest of you heathens there!
so love dawn can't you see.. that you only gotta dance with me.

I fully expect that in less than 12 hours my face will be in mid melt.

Doors are at 7, tin. I assume that means Whigs at 8, DBT at about 9:15(?).

Mostly just wanted to knock the Portland thread off the top of the list

Outfuckingstanding! A wonderful show, the best of the 3 I've seen on this NE run. It was this close to being epic/legendary: I thought there were some pacing issues mid-set (will need the set list to be more specific) and to be truly epic i suppose it would have to be 4 or 5 songs longer. Other than that, "just WOW" pretty much nails it. The rockers rocked, the slow ones burned, the guitars shredded, the set list was terrific and the sound was superb. It was not announced as a sell-out, but if they could have fit more than another 10 people in there I'd be surprised. And the crowd was totally into it from first note to last. I was surprised to learn at the last minute that I'd be bringing 2 newbies and one semi-newbie to the show and they all left totally hooked. It was that kind of overpowering show. The 6 song encore just tore the roof off: Birthday Boy - Girls Who Smoke - Zip City - Let There Be Rock - Shut Up - Angels & Fuselage. There were plenty of highlights in the main set too, including excellent versions of "When the Pin Hits the Shell" and "Sandwiches for the Road" (the best version I've heard).

The BTB scale was just irrelevant tonite. It was such a landslide performance that the "oddsmakers" just took it off the board so to speak.

It seems like Jay is turning into a guitarist who also plays keys rather than the keyboard guy who also plays guitar. I'm pretty sure this is the most guitar he's played since the big change. I'm still amazed at the seamless way he moves back n forth between instruments sometimes in the same song.

More tomorrow. If Northampton follows the arc that's been established so far on this run, we're in for one hell of a time tomw (well, I guess later to) nite!!

Good show. Not great, but good, maybe very good. I wish I had gone to another show so I could have a comparison for this current incarnation of the Truckers.

Steve, your friend that said they are mailing it in - no idea what he was talking about. The band put all their effort into putting on a rock show. And it was a rock show, no doubt about it.

But... a couple of things.

I like Jay a lot - good guy, good musician. Contrary to BTB's comments, he is a keyboard player playing guitar. I think the Truckers need to fill that Neff slot. Has someone called Jon Graboff? There is something missing up there and Jay is not the answer *right now*. Maybe he can be, but at the moment... jury is still out. They do need to take the whammy bar off his guitar - he relies on too much to get the sound he is looking for.

Lastly, Matt is not doing a great job, some songs it is more noticeable than others. He is following the beat instead of driving it. Brad is definitely carrying more of the load than Matt. I'll have to go back and listen to a few more recent shows to see if it is happening there too. Sometimes, he is just a hair *behind* the beat instead of pounding through it with Brad. Maybe I'm being critical, but that is what I heard last night.

That being said, I was thinking about going again tonight. DBT still puts on a good show and I'm looking forward to seeing them again, in whatever incarnation that is. I just hope it is with Jay on keys and Matt is better in tune with Brad.
