You know it's coming.
But seriously, it's hard to imagine where they go from here. Does this mean Athens is a no go?

I'm bummed about this, but the writing was on the wall, right?

All the best to Neff but I am no less stoked for the upcoming rock shows. This will only add some swagger to the real DBTs.

Isn't it just as likely that he got booted?
Just put the goddamn record on and enjoy it

That's funny stuff right there, and true. But it does suck.

What were the signs?
Re: Johnny Neff Quits
I was wondering how Neff was gonna play 9:30 with the Truckers and 40 Watt with Shonna.
Guess he figured it out.

Well, he's clearly with Shonna. Or at least was. And it seemed that she was not happy over leaving DBT. Seems to me that something has to change in that situation.
Just put the goddamn record on and enjoy it

His lady no longer in the band is my guess.

I guess none. However, with him playing in Eyecandy with Shonna (his live in girlfriend) who sings overtly Patterson bashing songs, I figured that there would be a little bit of rift for to him to play both sides of the fence.
I've never been in a band, so I'll admit I'm ignorrant towards this kind of stuff from a musical perspective; however I have been in relationships before which my girlfriend at the time had anamosity towards other friends and it is never a good situation.

Re: Johnny Neff Quits
If anyone is driving up to DC through Little Rock, let me know. I can't really afford the trip, but I'd love to see the shows. I can't help but think they'll still kick ass, much as I'll miss that screaming guitar. I always was a right-winger when it came to the rail, though.

Yeah, but like somebody said, he may had some help making this move.
If past is prologue though, we'll never know.

Re: Johnny Neff Quits
This definitely sucks, but lets look on the bright side:
The Hood/Cooley/Morgan core endures. Neff is a great soloist, and his slide playing will be greatly missed, but he's not a songwriter in the band. In other words, on the most base level, he's replaceable.
The question for the band moving forward is whether they want a) a great musician to support the Hood/Cooley catalog or b) a third songwriter. If b, how flexible are they with their sound? Do they look for a songwriter who already writes in the DBT style, or do they look for some new influences?
Of course my mind immediately jumps to several guys I'd love to see get an audition, but that's for a later thread

And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Possibly SG. You would think that the answer would come in regards to whether they already have a third guitarist in line for the New Years Run. They wouldn't cut their nose to spite their face though and with the 9:30 Club two days away that question will be answered soon.
I feel like TMZ now or something. It feels dirty. I'm going to move away from posting in this thread.

Re: Johnny Neff Quits
The last time I saw DBT was in September 2011. Very shortly after getting in a cab outside of Tip's, the driver rolled down his window to talk to a guy. I was looking at my phone so I didn't immediately notice it was Midnight Johhny Neff. The driver took off before I could offer to share the cab, but I always thought I'd have a chance to apologize to John for that. I guess I'm gonna have to go see EyeCandy.

Too bad Jackie Greene just joined The Black Crowes.
Re: Johnny Neff Quits
Another option would be to get Jay out from behind the keys some of the time. While he's not the guitarist Neff is by any means, he does play, and there are some songs that really need the 3rd guitar but don't really need keys (e.g. The Southern Thing).
Re: Johnny Neff Quits
sad to see him go but kind of new it was just a matter of time.

Yeah I don't want to go all TMZ either.
In the best of all possible worlds, I hope they get somebody who is a third guitar player/songwriter. I miss that.
*And I'm not talking about Jason. Just somebody who does that.
