dbt tracks # 127 - Greenville to Baton Rouge

Post by Clams »

I read in another thread that this is the 35th anniversary of the Skynyrd plane crash. Give this piece of shit back to Aerosmith...

One more night, one more show, four down, eighty-four to go
This ain't no time for moving slow

Greenville to Baton Rouge
I'll call you up when I get through
The life I live is the life I choose
Greenville to Baton Rouge

The shows have sure been great this year
All eight cylinders all twelve gears
Call you up when I touch down at the airport in a Louisiana town.

Street survivors, feeling no pain
A little more rock, a little less cocaine.
And don't forget about Stevie Gaines

Greenville to Baton Rouge
I'll call you up when I get through
If it's the last thing that I do
Greenville to Baton Rouge

Last night, you should have seen this plane. The right engine shot a twelve foot flame.
But South Carolina made us glad we came.
Now we're up in the air again.

Once we hit Louisiana, baby, I don't care
Got a brand new airplane waiting for us there
Give this piece of shit back to Aerosmith.
Wake me up when we get there.

The right engine gave a little flash, the pilot panicked and dumped the gas
Everything is quiet, we're dropping fast.
When we touch down gonna whup' his ass!

Greenville to Baton Rouge
Can't die now got a show to do
The life I live is the life I choose
Greenville to Baton Rouge.

(One more for the mules...)
If you don't run you rust

Dying to hear this one live. In 98 shows, we've never heard it.
It seems they are re-visiting quite a bit of SRO this tour, fingers crossed!

According to oneofthesedays.org the last time it was played was 2005-4-15 - Fox Theatre - Boulder, CO and only 25 times total.

I like it. The opening riff and the first few lines reminds me of Motörhead.

I love the guitars in the middle, plus the line Clams mentioned. Would love to hear this song live one day.

I was hoping for it at Busters Saturday night. Especially since they went so heavy with SRO at the show.
The solos at the end gives you an idea of the chaos in that plane as it was going down.

Absolutely love it. In reading the old newspaper clippings last week from the 35th, it really hit home....

Ok, so WHY is it that they have not played this song since Fox Theater in 2005?

I'm hoping they would have the common courtesy to announce something like that first.

Make it a "one-time-only" thing during the first night of the Athens run next year and everyone pays an extra $5 per ticket for Nuci's Space.

This is really the only song that I would love to hear that I havent heard yet live. I have seen multiple shows in Greenville and a show in BR but have never caught this one.

A few nights ago I was talking with my four year old, and he mentioned something about a toy airplane or helicopter crashing.

Daddy- You know Lynyrd Skynyrd was in a plane crash, right? (Yes, my four year old knows who Lynyrd Skynyrd is. I mean, don't all four year olds????)

Son-I didn't know that!

So I then thought about a playing him Angels in the Fuselage and decided it against him because I didn't want him going to our church preschool saying he was scared shitless of something. I then thought about Shut your Mouth but that was nixed for obvious reasons. I played him Greenville to Baton Rouge.

Although he liked the song, what really surprised me is that the next night my son asked, "Daddy, play me the song about Lynyrd Skynyrd in the plane crash!"

That is so cool! About 28 years ago My wife and son were at a dr. office and my son was drawing.
When the nurse asked him what it was he told her it was Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashing.
Then he looked at her and said "Jim Morrison died in a bathtub."
and the rest as they say is uh er uh, well somebodies history somewhere?
