super excited about Deer Tick. They are playing this "new" venue here in Cambridge on NYE - so they were our backup plan juuuust in case DBT ended up playing somewhere inaccessible for us Yankees.
Now we still get them. Sweet.

This is going to be awesome!
The announcement prompted my first exposure (that I recall) to Lee Fields. Holy Shit! he is the real f'n deal!! I love that each of the three openers have a very different feel to them. Glad this was announced now as it will ease my moping over not making Richmond this month.

Currently putting plans in motion to see the first two shows, but my husband would kill me if I missed NYE with him in Boston. Straight-up slaughter.
How's the public transportation in DC? Easy enough to get from the airport to a hotel downtown to the 9:30 club?

You won't be disappointed with a Lee Fields and The Expressions live show. I saw them open for Wilco in Chicago last month and they absolutely brought the heat. I absolutely love Wilco, but to be blown away by Lee Fields's live show was an understatement.
Wish I could make it to these shows. Gonna hold my bullets for the month later, if it happens.
Re: NYE run 2012-2013
So much for my wishes for a return to Colorado.. Flying home to CT for Xmas so no way I can hit the New Years run..
But in for Athens (if it happens)!

I was really surprised to see him as an opener! Funny how guys who have been around for decades are now getting a chance on the success of their, uh, imitators.
My company had Lee Fields play a party about a year and a half ago and he was fantastic.
Matt playing like an evil motherfucker w/ rhythm with a capital MPLAEMWR.

Where are you guys seeing this?
Don't see anything on the DBT or 9:30 club sites?
EDIT: Nevermind, it's on the Facebook page.

Re: NYE run 2012-2013
Looks like we get three band lineups on the 30th and 31st - the start times for those two nights are an hour an earlier and both are "with special guests".
Re: NYE run 2012-2013
Just got comment from the band on FB - tickets go live at NOON - aka 5 minutes from now

I'll be going the first night with Deer Tick. Yes, just one night, I'm a total whimp.
Re: NYE run 2012-2013

Put that drinking jacket on and enjoy a little fun...

Its your own fault you are not going.

Out for all three. New Years weekend is when my family celebrates the holidays and my dad's birthday. We are always out of town. It really bums me out that DBT is playing 9 blocks from my house and I can't go.

This would probably give me a nervous breakdown. I hard a very time dealing w the fact I was in Mexico for a close friend's wedding when DBT played the Ogden last March.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict there will be a lot of drinking on stage when Deer Tick opens.
I've seen Deer Tick a number of times, but the one that stands out was at the Ithaca Brew Fest a few years ago. They played a one-stage Festival that had Cross Canadian Ragweed, The Felice Brothers and The Hold Steady. When The Felice Brothers came out, members of Deer Tick joined them, and that may have been the most drunken performance I've ever seen. It was wild.

Well that makes me feel at least a little better about being unable to attend.
