True shame. I bet he's crushed.

About as crushed as he would be ecstatic if I thought he walked on water.

Love the Gourds. Actually saw the Gourds immediately precede DBT at Bonnaroo in 2005. Well I sort of saw both bands but that's a story for another day,

Coincidentally I'm mulling over seeing McMurtry with The Gourds in early November.

Nothing against Joe Pug but if Monday night's bill in Raleigh was McMurtry and the Gourds I definitely would have been there, post Yep Roc Records festivities fatigue or not. The Gourds are a band I never tire of seeing live as they always bring it and mix up their setlists each and every time. Mainly, they just always seem to be having a ton of fun up onstage and that translates over to the audience. It's positively infectious.

I am huge Gourds fan. The Gourds/DBT would be an almost dream bill for me. I have a poster for a show from Tipitina's from 2003 with The Gourds/DBT

Honestly Joe's set really impressed me. Even bought the wax, although I haven't had a chance to spin it yet.

I'm still kinda amazed at the show really - even though the venue was PACKED total crowd couldn't have been more than maybe 150...

This is why the Gourds would be better for Homecoming, and why McMurtry seemed dull to obl in comparison.

In no particular order...

Dying to see The Dexateens, never seen them
Absolutely love The Gourds, that would be a blast
Slobberbone would be amazing, never seen a full show with them, have only caught one or two songs in TX, DBT was playing across town at the same time
I've never been disappointed by Shovels & Rope, they would be a good fit too
Sorry my namesake, OBL, but I think James McMurtry would not be a snooze fest, he rocks
Jimbo Mathus would be a hell of a lot of fun, I think
Felice Brothers always make me happy. Bill in CT, I know that show in Ithaca wasn't their best moment, but they were probably having an off night complicated by equipment issues.
Hold Steady would be tons of fun, still kicking ourselves for not going to more of those shows
Booker T, need I say more?
Jay Gonzalez, so bummed we missed him in Athens in Aug

Whatever happens, please God no Langhorne Slim! Worst opener ever, and we sat (well, stood), through that 7 times on that tour. We were finally done with him, and a month later, we go to see Jason Isbell, and guess who opened for him? SOB! I wanted to get my ipod out & blast DBT during his set, but wouldn't you know, he jumped into the audience & grabbed my shoulder & sang to me. He's lucky I didn't slug him!

This definitely breaks the first rule of picking a support band but I would love to see the Low Anthem open for the Truckers.

On this basis I think it might be worth him opening just to see whether you explode or not :)

Since I'll be missing them on NYE, my vote goes to at least one night of Lee Fields and The Expressions.

I can't over-emphasize how badass their live show is.

Kind of funny when you think about it but this fanbase has to be one of the few that looks at a big show coming up and is actually excited with anticipation over the opener. You really have to love that.

Getting very anxious for this announcement.

And yes, Big Tom, Cracker would be epic. I liked them in the 90's when they were big, but oddly have become a real fan since living in Colorado. Johnny Hickman lives here and we regularly get to see them in small bars with 100 other people. They put on a great high-energy show. Isn't David Lowery married to the talent buyer for the 40 Watt? If so, seems like this could be a reality...

Yes - all those cats are friends...Patterson sang a lil backup on Cracker's lastest record and Lowery lives somewhere in the Classic City...
Hlaf of Kimberly's band is in Southern Bitch so that would be kick ass as well.....We got to figure a plan to get Wendy and Adam down from Virginia and it can be a reality...and the bass player who is in California....
