Best openers I've seen: Don Chambers, the Dexateens and the Moaners.

Best openers I've saw are Glossary, The Drams & Allison Moorer

Worst was Langhorne Slim and some dude that opened in Louisville back in 2005, he was beyond bad, so bad that I've erased his name from my memory

Really dug Free Mountain ('cept they didn't play Mississippi Queen like I'd been told they would). Got to rub elbows with sweaty NFL jersey dude in Cooleyville durin' the Truckers set. He was a cool guy.

DBT usually has great openers.
My initial choices were: 1-Shovels & Rope on Thursday
2-Deer Tick on Friday
3-J. Roddy & the Business
A little bit of reality set in when I found out Deer Tick was opening on the NYE run. I've now updated my list.
1-Shovels & Rope Thursday 1/17/13(J. Roddy second choice)
2-Shovels & Rope Friday 1/18/13(J. Roddy second choice)
3-The Camp Amped Band followed by J. Roddy & the Business 1/19/12

I'm going to duck now......but I think that it would be pretty cool to see Jason and the 400 Unit open up a show at the 40 Watt.

I also fully understand that with the timing of what is happening in Jason's life and the direction that the 400 Unit is going (away), this isn't likely to happen.

I think that JI is going to gain a lot of steam in the next year and DBT will be on hiatus. I think that it would be a nice send off for a period in their lives that was really fun musically. Play fun and inspired, treat the fans, be done with it and go on their ways.

Not feeling 100%? It wasn't like you had a heart attack the night before or anything. So many memories about that day came back to me in my mind right now. For some reason, I count my lucky stars that you didn't partake in one of those 5 Hour Energy Shots that we picked up from the gas station before heading to Buster's. We still did have some drinks, but I would imagine those energy shots might have made things worse.
You are truly a badass. I don't know how you made it back to Illinois on that drive back on Sunday. But I'm really glad that you did.

FREE Mountain. There it is. They may be sweet as pumpkin pie, but I didn't care a lick for their music.

They're both playing The 40 Watt in December. And Patterson & the Rumblers.

I like the idea of this plus Jay could do a night as well.

What I'd really love to see is James McMurtry open on one of the nights.

Plus for what it's worth I loved Free Mountain last year.

A McMurtry/DBT tour would be apocalyptically good. Saw him Raleigh Monday night - great show.

Have Drivin' n' Cryin' and the DBTs ever shared a stage? If not, now might be the time.

Pretty sure that the Alabama Shakes will not be opening for the likes of DBT again. Might be the other way around, though.

Two Cow would be great.

James McMurtry would not put me in a party mood.

Yep. When they sell out 2,300 capacity venues in fifteen minutes as a headliner I'm thinking opening slots are unlikely. Of course they might be the perfect opener if The Stones really do tour in 2013.

Yeah, there's a great pic of Patterson and Cooley (back in his long hair days) singing onstage with Kevn.
Wasn't "the Opening Act" about DnC?

You know, I have a lot of respect for the guy, but I've seen him twice, once quite recently, and he's just a snoozer to me. I find him smart and personable, but I thought his performance was dull. It's a shame, but there you have it.

True shame. I bet he's crushed.
