DBT News Service Hacked?

Something happened to the DBT newslist. My inbox is flooded with messages. Someone should alert them.

Sad thing is it seems that people who respond to dbtnews@drivebytruckers.com end up sending a message to everyone on the list. By doing so, they make their email address public knowlege. If you do not respond to the emails, hopefully your email address will remain somewhat secret. (you still are a recipient of tons of emails until they fix the issue, but at least you havn't shared your email with everyone else on the dbtnews list.)

Hey guys! Here's the dealio:
Our server was recently purchased by a large corporation and they altered several things.
One of the things they altered was taking a long-dead email list and making it a FUCKING DISCUSSION LIST.
Nobody knew this until one person subscribed, then everyone on our list got the email.
The more people responded, the more emails people got.
All of this happened while I was asleep.

This morning I just went in and deleted the whole list.
Please let me know if you get more emails, so I can go choke the living shit out of someone for starting my Sunday off so wonderfully.

Well according to my email history I seemed to be getting emails about every two or three minutes up until 9:25 this morning and they seemed to have stopped flooding in now so... good work Jenn!

To those of you still getting them:
A lot of email servers are slow in delivering emails, especially when there are a lot of them - so once your individual email servers get finished sending the old ones, you should stop receiving the dbtnews emails altogether. The list has been completely deleted so there's no way it can continue.

I just deleted 150 emails. My inbox hasn't been that full since I stopped subscribing to the "Lonely Russian Steampunk Girls Looking For Love" list. At least with that one I'd get naked webcam pics.

Well gall dang what in the sam hell is going on? Nothing like an e-mail apocalypse to wake you from your hibernation.

We had a mailing list going back to when I started the first DBT website in the 90's. If you didn't join it on purpose I have no idea how you got on it, because I didn't add anyone who didn't ask to be added... I didn't always control it personally, though, so it could have come from purchasing stuff, who knows - but the deal is that that list had been considered dead for a long time because our server told us that our list was too big, and we couldn't use it to send to so many addresses. Apparently they figured out how to do it when they started making all the changes they have been making lately, but didn't figure out how to do it right. I can not tell you how many emails I have responded to since I got woken up to deal with it at 8:30 this morning, but I can tell you that I'm not even halfway through. This was nothing that we could have controlled, since it all happened via our server, but man... I am switching servers ASAP.
