In fact, that first one usually comes in second in my list of favorite concerts ever with my first R.E.M. concert (which took place at Duke in '86) taking the top slot. I posted some photographs from the first Pine Hill Farm show in the photos section of the board.
"Oh, there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out they ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Let me tell you something, once and for all--Rocky Marciano was good; but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't shit."
If that came across as though I was bragging it certainly wasn't my intention. I'm sure there's lots of people here that have seen the DBTs far more times than I have and way earlier as well. I just so happened to be in the right place at the right time.
My first DBT show. Band was on fire this night, and it was a killer setlist. First two songs went right for the balls, and it worked. Seeing "Box Of Spiders" and "Girls Who Smoke" were particular highlights, as was "State Trooper." Stood in front of Cooley, who proceeded to light up a cig, despite the fact that a smoking ban had recently been passed in Columbia.

What a fun thread. Glad to see the Richmond Halloween shows get some love - cause I saw both.
I think Jonicont is right. You never forget your first which for me was Brown's Island June 2007 right after Jason left the band. Bulldozers and Dirt as the opener, Self Destructive Zones, Two Daughters and Ghost To Most (with killer pedal steel from Midnight Johnny) before the album came out, Road Cases with a long intro and Let here Be Rock, Angels and Fuselage and State Trooper w/Buttholeville as the encore. I left a convert.
my favorite was also my first show, 7-29-04, during the DD/TDS era. i had just read a little article on "southern bands" & so had ordered SRO (also ordered mmj's "it still moves", iron & wine, & kol's first album in the same shipment) & had been listening nonstop to it for 2 weeks when i saw they were playing this show. I got my buddy to go who had never heard anything by them & were immediately blown away, high energy, top notch rock 'n roll, with all members passing around bottles of jack like it was water (i swear they killed 3 or 4 bottles onstage that night). one of my favorite moments was around when they played demonic possesion, patterson gets on the mic & says something like about how sick he was leading up to the show but how the crowd is got him feeling so good & thought his fever broke around lookout mtn. after that show, me & my buddy were both hooked & i immediately went out & bought decoration day.
i've also seen 2 killer shows at house of blues in myrtle beach....1st one was in 2007 & is a little blurry due to some overindulgence but remember having a great time, the 2nd show was in 2009 right before they released the fine print & they started out with car dealer war which is one of my favorite songs & ended with the angels & fuselages. that was one of the first shows i remember trying to be a more responsible drinker so i can wake up the next day with more than a hangover & a vague memory of what they played
Just cause I don't run my mouth don't mean I got nothing to say...

We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

The 09 HOB Myrtle Beach show is one of my favorites, with a dedication to Jim Dickinson I believe. Good thread

We caught 6 of the DU shows and although opening night in Athens was great, those San Fran shows will always be special. I have to agree those DD/TDS era shows were legendary but the one that sticks out the most (and it really wasn't a DBT show) was the night I was in paradise with the people I love the most.
and that pussy Alec Baldwin blew that girl away, and speaking of pussy Steve got it all!
I have been thinking about this since it was posted and there are so many things that go into this. Was it the time they played that rarity or the song you just needed to hear (one of these days, Huntsville 2008)? Was it seeing one of the last shows with Jason and then finding out on Monday he was leaving (Greenville sc). Was it a venue that just blew you away (Stubbs, tipitina)? Was it a special guest and a killer encore (Los Angeles house of blues)? Was it because of who you were with (Athens every year where my best friends and I always know we are going to meet, no matter what else is happening in the world)? Is it because it's a special night and they play forever (NYE)?
What is great about this band is you know that they are going to bring it every night. You don't worry if you are going to get a show where you walk out thinking you wasted your money or they were mailing it in. I can't decide so I will go with the best answer which is the next one, in 12 days.

Don't remember the setlist, but DBT closed the "alt-country" stage on the last night of the festival where there had been two solid days of incredible music - Escovedo, Emmylou, Neko, Lucinda, Kristofferson, Doe, Keen, etc.
Only a few of us saw any of it - everyone else was at the mainstage 50 yards away seeing Alan Jackson, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn and the rest of the generic country crowd.
DBT played before maybe 50 people while Kenny Chesney was next door with a crowd of at least 20,000.
They closed with "Angels and Fuselage". Hogan had stayed over from Neko's set the day before and sang her part with them.

TC I was about to say the same thing then saw your post. I wasn't at the show, but that show has always been my favorite live show.

I do believe this was my very first show. I'm sure BostonREB will correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe my 2nd. Either way, it was an unreal experience, and one that i will always be forever grateful for.
so love dawn can't you see.. that you only gotta dance with me.
Memphis in May 04. My very first show. Only songs I remeber really are, Company I Keep, Goddamn Lonely Love, and the Pusser Trio. Walking Tall was #1 at the box office that week... While I've seen shows that were "better" I'm sure, this one was the best for the simple fact that it changed the way music affected my life forver. These songs have been there when I quit jobs, end relationships, mend relationships, and when I thought there was nothing in life worth holding onto! I have never been touched in the ways that a live show does when they walk on stage.. its no longer if a show is better that another or not, it's a fix, my medicine. It changes my attiude for weeks, cause in that 3 hour time frame in Anyclub, USA. there is nothing like it...
