Wow, love this. Patterson is singing better than he ever has, and I love the lyrics, of course (is that a Springsteen reference in the first verse??). Weird how much Kelly sounds a little like Shonna on the harmonies (listen to the '"time and space" part!). Very heavy 70s vibe, here, awesome! This bodes well for the album. Can't wait.

This is a beautiful song. Thank you Patterson and Kelly. Jay's piano and Neff's pedal steel, while exceptional throughout, when combined w/ the guitar at the end, sound other-worldly. I know, that may be a little over the top, but I fucking love this song.

So gorgeous. Heard it off a live recording earlier and had no idea it was about Vic Chestnutt.

DAMN!
Sounds Great! What a beautiful track.
Instantly got chicken skin, have to put it up with World of Hurt/Mercy Buckets for all time favorites all ready.
Between Jay's piano work and Neff's Pedal steel, this song is too good.
Always wished that Patterson and Shonna would have worked out the harmonies like he and Kelly Hogan have on this track.
definitely can't wait for this album and maybe a little west coast appearance in the fall.
take a deep breath and throw yourself into it with everything you got...it's great to be alive!

i miss vic chesnutt as an artist.
i can't imagine the pain of having lost him as a friend.
i guess this song gives us a glimpse into that sadness.

I had heard a live recording too and didn't realize it was about Vic Chestnutt either.
It is a gorgeous song. The music is just amazing, absolutely love it, and the lyrics are even more perfect now that you know the Vic Chestnutt piece.
I can't say enough how much I love this song. The blending of Patterson's and Kelly's voices is phenomenal.

This song has probably got more positive feedback on a wider scale than any DBT song I've ever seen. Even people who ain't into "this kind of music" on FB are sharing it.

Absolutely gorgeous. Just getting into Patterson's solo stuff and this might be my favorite song by him so far. Wow. Do DBT ever do their solo stuff at DBT shows? I'd love to hear this live and I'm going to Athens.

No, but catch any of Patterson's solo shows with a full band and you'll hear it. Such a great, great song. Can't say enough.

This is such a great song Love It! Kelly and Patterson should tour the states in the fall together. It makes perfect sense they are both supporting new albums.

I was lucky enough to hear Patterson play this @ his solo shows last month in Annapolis & @ the Birchmere. He said that he & Kelly co-wrote it for inclusion on her album, but he didn't finish it in time. So she agreed to sing it w/him on his album. He played a bunch of stuff from the upcoming album. There are some great songs on it, but I liked this one the best. Kelly's heartfelt harmony takes it to another level still.

To the best of my recollection, the DBTs have actually performed some of their solo material in the past. One instance I can think of is Jason performing "The Assassin" by Patterson. I'm pretty sure some of the songs that ended up on Patterson's solo records may have been debuted during Truckers' sets but I know that's a big exception. Same thing for "Dress Blues", which may have originally been intended to be a DBTs song but actually ended up on Jason's first solo album instead. There may be other instances but that's the first one that springs to mind. As for the current lineup of the band, I don't think they do their solo material anymore, at least not that I'm aware of.

I think sometimes Patterson debuted some of his solo stuff with DBT (before it was technically "solo" stuff). I know I've heard "Granddaddy" and I caught (what I think) was the debut of "Back of a Bible".
