The Epitome of DBT

So me and BrettAC were talkin the other day and figured I'd post here..
What one song do you feel best describes DBT, the Epitome of DBT. One song that after completion you say that is what the Truckers are all about. Not just your favorite song either.
My choice has to be The Living Bubba. It's dirty, true, pure and rock n roll to the core. It seems to be the most fitting in my opinion.

So what are everyone else's thoughts?

Puttin People on the Moon has always struck me as the song that epitomizes what DBT is to me.

When I crawled out of bed this morning
I could tell something wasn't right
There were cigarettes in the ashtrays
They weren't your menthol lights
There were beer bottles in the kitchen
And broken glass on the floor
Someone must have slipped me something
Passed out a couple days before

The car was in the carport sideways
Big dent running down the side
Never seen anything as frightening
As when I took a look inside
Smell of musk and deception
Heel marks on the roof-line
Bad music on the stereo
All the seats in recline

The aftermath staring me right in the face
I'll get around to breaking even one of these days

My credit cards have all been maxed out
The meat in my freezer all thawed
The IRS laid the facts out
It's all worse than I thought
The welfare lady said enough is enough
The kids ain't been to school in weeks

Crystal-meth in the bathtub
Blood splattered in my sink
Laying around in the aftermath
It's all worse than you think

I get the feeling that this song has become more relevant over the years.

Hell No, I Ain't Happy

There's a lot of bad wood underneath the veneer
She's an overnight sensation after twenty five years
Sharp fast curves, power steering
unroll that twenty, buy me some beer
Ain't too bad, too bad at all, pick up the phone if I ever call
Hell No, I Ain't Happy.

There's a purdy little girl outside the van window
Bout 80 cities down, 800 to go
Six crammed in, we ain't never alone
Never homesick, ain't got no home
Check my mail if you would please, Jenn
Collect my things till I'm in town again
Hell No, I Ain't Happy.

But I get a little closer everyday
Gonna be a long time till I'm back your way.

I've seen just how much I can stand
One night in Kansas City, we thought about killing a man
Seen my number fly by on Interstate Ten
Seen the mountains of Montana at Seven AM.
And I keep it all together for the sake of the kids
Got your fine-ass self on the back of my lids
Hell No, I Ain't Happy.
But I ain't too crappy, too crappy at all

These are good picks---

add in 'where the devil don't stay' and either 'ronnie and neil' or 'let there be rock'...definitely a song that mentions skynard.

This is an impossible question - kind of like "if you had to cut off one of your legs, which would it be?"

But Devil is as good as any. Along with Bubba, Sinkhole, Decoration Day, Zip City and Cottonseed. And the others I'm forgetting.

Get ready, cause it's a dark horse.

"The Night G.G. Allin Came to Town"

Awlright, hear me out on this one.

Yeah, it doesn't have a ton of crashing guitars, or an anthemic chorus, or even a signature Cooley guitar solo. It doesn't get played that often. It doesn't really fit the definition of "epitome", and perhaps you will decide that my post is trending more towards "favorite DBT song" and bump my ass offa here. But think about it.

It's incredibly raunchy. It tells a fantastic story. It's spectacularly funny. And being from the South, a mere 40 miles from where Cooley/Patterson/Jason/Shonna grew up, I know people who probably look just like the Lovey and Thurston Howell III look-a-likes who were horrified and bewildered over the story in the Memphis Flyer about the G.G. Allin show. Hell, those people could have been my parents. I'm sure I've sat, still drunk and stinking the morning after, in a restaurant in the South next to people just like this, and been prompted to laugh so hard I fell down by something in which ordinary people, fresh from church, failed to see humor.

But most of all I love this song because of its back story. I love the fact that Patterson wrote it as a birthday present to Cooley at a time when they weren't speaking, and shortly thereafter they started playing together again, and soon formed the band that has me here on 3DD tonight in the first place. God bless G.G. Allin, the demented, sick, depraved SOB he was.

colodogdoc, I like the way you're thinking. My favorite DBT songs are the ones that have a backstory, like this. Good call.

i looked at every album and every song and all the lyrics of all the songs i thought could qualify:

i came away with these:
bulldozers and dirt
ninebullets
ronnie and neal
southern thing
women without whiskey
sinkhole
never gonna change

for me,
any of these could work...
southern ideals, drinking, attitude, toughness,pain,etc.

but after much consideration, i am going to pick 1, only one
for me,
the epitome of all things truckers is...
honest,growing up without giving up,reality,
sex, friends,sadness, beauty
perseverance

I could name several but for me it has to be "The Living Bubba" and/or "Zip City". I'm surprised "Zip City" hasn't gotten more mentions, although it does have a few.

You can make a case for it. The fact that it has a beginning and now, sadly, an ending and that it's so deeply personal of a song. It's certainly the epitome of the personal side of DBT. Good call.
