My daddy didn't pull out, but he never apologized. Rock and roll means well but it can't help tellin' young boys lies.

It's really hard to pick just one so I will go with one Cooley and one Patterson.

"If you're suppose to watch your mouth all the time, I doubt your eyes would be above it."

and

"I see my past in everything that I despise, I see my future and I'm scared to close my eyes."
Just cause I don't run my mouth don't mean I got nothing to say...

Since my first one was Cooley, I'll do the rest:

Patterson: "So he went upstairs and found a faded picture of a girl he'd never met, but somehow seen. Like a memory of a dream from early childhood, like a virgin's idea of release."

Isbell: "John Henry was a steel-driving bastard but John Henry was a bastard just the same. And an engine never thinks about his daddy and an engine never needs to write its name."

Almost not fair to ask for one.

Patterson-"Is there vengence up in heaven, or are those things left behind, maybe everyday is Saturday morning..."

Cooley-"I don't want anything I done, to be anybody's fault, even if they got more money and mouth than they got balls."

Jason-"Don't worry about losin your accent, a Southern man tells better jokes."

Shonna-"You aint givin up on lookin for your thing, even if you probably should."

Sit yer narrow ass down, hot shot

Does a whispered prayer get heard?

It gets so hard to keep between the ditches
When the roads wind the way they do
If you don't run you rust

I've been thinking about this one for a long time. And actually, isn't that the perfect place for your eyes to be if you were watching your mouth all the time? Right? Where else would they be? Under your feet?

And don't go telling me my head is up my ass even if that is what your are thinking.

Wrong, Mr. B. This is one reason that Cooley is such a great songwriter. He doesn't let something like the literal truth get in the way of the bigger picture. And everyone knows exactly what he means here. If i were writing this song and got to this point, I woulda got totally stuck on the "but it's 2 words problem." Cooley knew better. Mr. B, you may now go on loving this song totally absolved of any guilt.

Trying not to duplicate anything not posted so far...

Cooley: "Hippies rode around putting smiles on faces that the devil wouldn't even put a shoe..."

Patterson: "Memphis was sinking into the Mississippi, we were doing our best just to ride it down..."

Isbell: "The sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before."

Shonna: "I'd like to catch you when you're fallin', But you're too busy for me Darlin'. I tried to tell you you'd be fallin'. Now go on home and do your bawlin'"

Rob: "When my body dies will you remember my name?"

Adam: "Hear the bells as they peal through the holler, Doesn't sound like a friend of mine"
