Re: ATHENS 2012
The word for today: Transcendent
The metaphysical question for tomorrow: What comes after transcendent?
Hell if i know, but the Church doors open at 8, sermon at about 11, perhaps some answers by 1:30ish. Be prepared to testify. And get some sleep chilluns, we're gonna need it.
If last nite was DBT as AC/DC, tonite was DBT as, I dunno, REM maybe? Sweet melodies, subtle and beautiful harmonies, soaring solos, soulful vocals and that extra thing, call it the groove, the pace, the locked in tightness, the confidence, whatever it was, man, that was one beautiful set that just melded together and flowed beautifully. I know a lot of people are gonna say they prefer last nite, and for all out rocking, I cant/wont argue, but tonite was special in a totally different way and it touched me and moved me.
The sound was crystal clear and pretty much perfect, capturing the vocals and harmonies at levels rarely achieve in my experience, plus a better balance on Barbe's bass - by no means lost, but not quite so front and center. All the players were at the top of their respective games, but i gotta single out Jay. He was just outstanding all nite long.
Whatever the next few months may bring, for about 2 and a half hours one night in Athens, GA, my soul took flight and played amongst the stars. And that my friends, is what it's all about. Thank you, Patterson, Cooley, John, Jay, Brad and Dave.

When Howlinwolf held up his imaginary mike to me after EZ B walked off, lookin' for my instant analysis of what we had just lived through; and as further proof that great minds think alike (or @ least one great mind [bubba] & one that tries awful hard [me]); I said "Transcendental & off the hook". Gator, I was @ all those shows too & totally agree w/ya. Every show seems to top the last one; but they will be hard pressed to top this one. Your Daddy fuckin' Hates Me (but I always loved his daughter, that's for sure). I told my favorite Scandinavian, RolandK, @ the end that I"ve been to 6 or 8 hundred shows & this one was my favorite. I meant that. Thanks everybody.

Re: ATHENS 2012
Wow. That was something else. I love the Alabama Shakes, and have had the absolute pleasure of seeing them twice before, and they nailed it last night, or at least, I think they did.
The 3dd film crew was out last night, and not only did we film DBT, but we filmed the Shakes. It's always a different perspective when you're filming. It's not a bad thing by any stretch, just different because you're watching the show through a camera and trying not to get jostled and interfere with everyone else's good time.
I had the camera that was front and center on the rail, a sweet spot, thanks, Jonicont! A huge thank you to all the people who helped protect me and keep track of the tapes last night, Holly, Guitar Man Upstairs, Uncle Rickey, Swamp, Mrs. Swamp, and Strutter. Much appreciated!
DBT was just incredible. It was a roller coaster ride. Up and down with rockers and sweet melodies. Can't wait for tonight!
Have to run, much to do, busy day today, don't forget to go to the Nuci's Space Auction at 4:30!

Re: ATHENS 2012
The shows just keep getting better. Last night will be a hard show to top. I almost didn't let Marie talk me into wearing the Too Much Sex, Too Little Jesus shirts but I'm glad I did now. It was awesome to hear that song live finally and songs like that and Marry Me are comical to us now that she is pregnant. Can't wait to tell my son his first shows were at the 40 Watt in Athens. I could go on all day about how great it was but seeing the Truckers in Athens is my journey to Mecca. Rock-n-roll really did save my life. Thank you DBT.
Just cause I don't run my mouth don't mean I got nothing to say...
Re: ATHENS 2012
Having a great time in Athens. Hanging with a lot of cool people off the board. Just heard DBT recording a new song about Walmart. Sign outside. the 40 watt said "No Knocking Recording In Process. Maybe we get the new song tonight.

After spending most of the day in bed with a hangover I'm cutting back on the booze tonight lol. Got up around 4 and we spent a grew hours walking around downtown Athens, what a great town. Looking forward to the big rawk show tonight. Be interesting to see if they can match last night.

Sounds like a great time!!! Missing being there with fellow 3DD folks and meeting some of y'all. Special thanks to BTB, Lynne and CooleyGirl for the comments when I decided we wouldn't make it. y'all are the best. BTB, you will certainly understand this, had to miss this weekend because of a big homicide trial I have this upcoming week. Thanks for the updates...y'all please enjoy the last show and raise one for me!!
(Really hope the Nuci's space auction was great!! Maybe those special bracelets may end up for sale elsewhere...I'd buy one for sure!!!
