You and Your Crystal Meth
Is a song that I do not particularly care for. I feel it is my least favorite of the entire Drive-By Truckers catalog. Is there a Drive-By Truckers song you don't enjoy very much? If so, what is it?

I think that if you are going to start a thread like this, a little more explanation of your position is appropriate. Initiating a discussion is fine. Initiating a bitchfest is pointless
Always go to the show
Re: You and Your Crystal Meth
These threads tend to take the following course. A few people will post other songs. Then someone will come to the defense of those songs. I can tell you already that your least fave song will have its defenders. Just the way these threads go.
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts
Re: You and Your Crystal Meth
Well, I don't find the song to be very musically appealing. The instruments combine to sound like uninspired noise, and the lyrics aren't among Patterson's best ("I used to love you / Now you suck" doesn't strike the tuning fork of my soul like his better work). I'm always turning people on to DBT, and without fail this song is one that they find on their own. Judging the book (song) by its cover (title) it sounds like it's going to be a crazy backwoods rocker. Then you hear it and walk away thinking "what the fuck was that?"

Maybe, but "I ain't exactly a no drug guy/Just don't dig the way that you get high" is one of my favorites.

One of their most intense tracks up there with Days of Graduation.
Maybe you need to see it in your own hometown to really get it.
But do I listen to it alot? No

Love it - from the creepy ambience it lends to BTCD (which I cant imagine without it) to the scorching live version.
While the lyrics ain't exactly poetry, they make it seem more real/personal.

Not the greatest Patterson song but live it is very atmospheric and is a nice lead in to Goode's Field Road which they used to play right after. (just like on the record)
Looks like a bunch of little whiny fucksticks to me

Works very well sandwiched between Checkout Time and Goode's Field Rd. Some crazy shit going on in those three. They all have a similar dark vibe.

This is what I was just about to say. Waaaaaay better live than on record. The bass and organ simply throb in a venue. The record version is just "eh" for me. I don't skip it, but it just makes me want a rock show.
Re: You and Your Crystal Meth
It's a clunker, IMO. Aftermath was the better meth song.
But yeah, you made a bit of a mistake suggest that the band is fallible. Prepare to draw some ire...
Other songs I don't care all that much for, by DBT standards:
Eyes Like Glue
Flying Wallendas
Checkout Time in Vegas
Home Front
Monument Valley
All of Shonna's songs on BTCD
Great Car Dealer War
Danko/Manuel
Flying Wallendas
Mrs. Claus' Kimono
Assholes
President's Penis
GG Allin
Moved
Cassie's Brother
Birmingham
Mrs. Dubose
Not that these are just bad songs, they just do very little for me personally. Kinda funny that my least favorite DBT album (GB) doesn't have a cut on this list.

Yeah mine too. My absolute favorite Jason DBT song.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved
Re: You and Your Crystal Meth
kick ass piece of art......live. wish it was played more
in the same same sense as the Dead's 'Victim or the Crime' that I felt was abrasive on the lp, yet became a fav of mine live.
I always buy the studio recordings and listen to them a bit, but always go back to the live recordings to keep from getting burn out on the music

Re: You and Your Crystal Meth
Well, I'll be honest...I hated it at first. I also thought certain lyrics were a bit amateurish.
Then, after seeing it at the 40 Watt the first two nights in Athens that Jan, I changed my mind.
The mesh with GF Road is fantastic. A real gut burner. Too bad it never really made the cut live.
I wish they would occasionally sub it in for some of the heavy rotation tunes like: Three Dimes Down or PP on the Moon.
It's funny, but I like ALL their songs to certain degree's. However, I definitely like some better than others LIVE. We all do.

I think it sucks worse live than it does on the record.
And the first time I saw it live was at the 40 Watt, with strobe lights.

Wait, so... you don't like that song? Cause I didn't get that from the whole you starting a thread devoted to how much you hate that song, thing. I'll try and pay closer attention.

Not exactly Beebs. Let me clarify for you. I believe Sandy started the thread to declare his hate for the album version. When the discussion moved to the live version, which some people do seem to like, sandy declared his hate for that too. In effect, a second dose of Crystal Meth hate. Sandy am I correct?

why are people busting Sandy's balls for a legitimate opinion?

My sentiments is exactly. This might be the only DBT song I flat out dislike and usually skip. The first time I heard it, I laughed out loud at the line you quoted and that's clearly not the effect the song is supposed to have.

maybe the song was only intended to realate to those who've been strung out on the stuff
