Favorite Venue to see DBT
Ok, besides the 40 Watt...where else do you like to see DBT?
I've got plenty of favorites, some sell better than others. There's also plenty of places I've yet to see them, so I'll include those, too.
Hell, let's start with them:
1) Red Rocks in Colorado
2) Winterland in San Fran
3) Jazz Fest in NOLA
4) Memphis in May
5) Amsterdam (anywhere)
Of the shows I've seen....
1) 9:30 Club in DC
2) Newport in Columbus, Oh
3) Mr Smalls near Pittsburgh
4) Tip's in New Orleans
5) Cannery Ballroom in Nashville
How bout y'all ?

Belly Up in Aspen...and I get to see them there tonight!
Otherwise The Fox in Boulder, which IMO is the best venue in the country.
Love Red Rocks, but seeing them there did nothing for me. Maybe it would have been better if it was dark.

I haven't seen thme at Tipitina's or the 40 Watt or any of those places. But to me, the best shows I've seen have been in small clubs with small stages in small out of the way towns.

I really enjoyed The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. The neighborhood was great. A coffee shop right next door. Great accoustics and a balcony. I'll go there again.
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts

New Daisy Theater in Memphis. Right on Beale Street. Patterson used to work there.
Re: Favorite Venue to see DBT
The best venue that I have seen DBT play is really small place in Milwaukee called Shank Hall. It had two bartenders in the entire venue, but drinks were still plentiful. It had a really low ceiling and was smokey as shit.
Honorable mention:
The Abbey Pub
40 Watt
Busters

Variety Playhouse
Even though it was cold, the Greenfield Lake show in Wilmington was great. Right on the rail!
I am happy to see them anywhere!!!

I loved seeing them at the Tabernacle for those two Thanksgiving shows. I wish that would have become a tradition.

Re: Favorite Venue to see DBT
I dont know if this is the same answer as zip's or not, but i can't think of a venue i've seen them at that made any difference to my enjoyment, plus or minus. The early curfew at Toad's Place in New Haven was kind of a bummer (to make way for a late nite dance club!), but it didnt impact the show per se.
I'd love to see 'em at the 40 watt, of course, and anywhere in the muscle shoals area. But other than that, i just want to see 'em lots more in any place smaller than an arena. I'd still go see 'em even if they were to make that leap, but i have no doubt that it wouldn't be the same thing.

To see them at Winterland you're gonna need a time machine, since the last show there was the epic GD 12/31/78, and it's long since been torn down.

The Fillmore
Great American Music Hall
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival- the setting but not the huge crowd
would like to see them play:
Britt Pavilion
Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room
The Frost Amphitheatre in Palo Alto (probably too big for them to headline, same with Greek in Berkeley)
Hawkins Amphitheater in Reno

Re: Favorite Venue to see DBT
out of the venues I've caught them at, I'd say Tip's - it may have been alot to do with the momentum coming in from the Dirty South which was just about released, and I remember the sound being a little muddy but they still melted faces.
I just love NOLA period

Re: Favorite Venue to see DBT
Southgate House, Buster's and the Cannery would definitely be my top 3.
Re: Favorite Venue to see DBT
My top three:
1) Orange Peel
2) Southgate House
3) Buster's
I would love to see them at PNC Pavilion here in Cincy, but it holds about 4,800, so I'm not sure it would make sense for them.

Variety Playhouse (Atlanta. Probably my favorite venue in town)
Georgia Theatre (Athens. Miss you, can't wait to see what you become)
The Pageant (St. Louis)
I love the 40 Watt for the history and the general vibe, but I'm not in love with it as far as a concert venue. The floor's too flat, so it's difficult to see the stage from the back. I've had issues with assholes in the crowd every time I've been there. Getting drinks can be a pain in the ass. That said, I'll continue to go every winter as long as DBT plays their homecoming shows there.
