Tix, airfare, and hotel - check. I got a monster case of rock n roll wood and the only cure is the giant rubout that is a two-night DBT stand at Tips!!! Anyone know where I can get an estimate on cabfare from the airport to the convention center?

in new orleans, it is a flat rate from the airport to the quarter. can't recall for sure, but think it is about $32.
see if your hotel has a shuttle at the airport.
if you are cool sharing your space, find another person or two going to the quarter and split ( though they do add for passengers).
it's not a bad ride, maybe 20 mins. tops.

How difficult is it to park in New Orleans and specifically around Tipitinas? I'm thinking of making the drive down from Atlanta.

I haven't parked around there in years, so I'm no help on that.

But I will say that when I lived in Atlanta, I always wanted to make the Amtrak down to New Orleans and back. I figured the last night I'd stay up till dawn, hit the train when it left at seven, and be dead to the world in my reclining chair for the next twelve hours. It's an option to consider.

Wax. Parking is not bad in the neighborhoods around Tips. Also, there is a grocery store right across the street that you can park at with no problem. The store will be closed by the time the show ends and they don't really monitor the parking . . . . . .

Completely out of the blue, I just got offered a ride to and from Lafayette, Louisiana that weekend. I am just this close to buying tickets. Is there anyone with whom I might be able to catch a ride in either direction? Who might like to share a room? Who'd like to buy my drinks? (Okay, that's a long shot.)

Nobody has posted in this one for a while, but in 5 weeks me and the lady will be sitting at a bar in NOLA having some creole goodness and preparing for a weekend of Rawk. This cannot get here fast enough. That is all.

While NOLA has its share of fancy restaurants w/ fancy prices, a disproportionately large share of great eating can be had for reasonable (or lower) prices. There are many great places for po' boys of course. I know where my favorite is in the Quarter but can't think of the name, lol. I'll try to come up w/ it. Comellia Grill, at the last stop on the streetcar line that goes past Tulane (St Charles?), is a must. Louisiana Pizza Kitchen is surprisingly good for a chain. At least the last time i was there, K Paul's was incredibly reasonable for a world famous restaurant. Mother's is an institution for a reason. If need be, you could survive just on the beignets at Cafe du Monde and have plenty of money left over.

I'm coming from the other coast, but it will be nice to see you! We can quote lyrics at each other and embarrass our friends.

That sounds like a lot of fun. The Truckers, The Big Easy & some special 3DD people. It's an embarrassment of riches!

O.K., I got my flight & hotel (Avenue Plaza on St. Charles). Only bummer is I had to get a 7:15 am flight out on Monday (or pay like $200 more). That means I can't get really slockered Sun. night, or I'll never make it to the airport in time. Guess I'll get hammered Sat.
I'm whetting my appetite with a short set tonight w/Dylan & Leon. Why am I more excited about my pending NOLA trip than I am about what is here & now?

I'm leaving super-early as well. 6:40, I think. At least I'll have some of the day to regroup at home before going back to work (and two flights I can sleep on).

What sort of hotel prices are you folks finding? I'm really wanting to make this trip, but I need to be frugal and have yet to locate old acquaintances with couches to spare. (A ride between Lafayette and New Orleans wouldn't hurt, either, but that's a manageable expense on Amtrak.)

I use Hotels.com and there are some on there for around 45 bucks, but I dont know where they are. See some in the warehouse district starting at 70ish. There is always priceline, but check the forums at betterbidding to get an idea of what is being accepted at the time.

I think my hotel ends up being $85-90 a night (tacked onto my flight). John A.- I've got one single king-size bed. I would have to be pretty fuckin' hammered to share it w/you. That means Saturday night (w/an option for Sunday).
