Your top 3 of the moment

Post by Clams »

You know how anytime you have to make a list of your favorite DBT or Stones or whoever songs, you always say "Well here's what it is today, but it could be a different list tomorrow..."? Well, list your top 3 DBT songs OF THE MOMENT and elaborate if you like. Feel free to update as per your mood.

Right now, I'm into:

One of These Days - love the scene where they're playing it in Secret to a Happy Ending
72 (This Highway's Mean) - ever since Bovine's killer post about this song
Tales Facing Up - sums up everything I love about the truckers in a 5-minute sing along
If you don't run you rust

Pulaski - One of my top favorites from "GGB". I think it's a beautiful song & small story, capturing in a very short time what many movies and stuff try to do in an hour or two.

Space City - I listened to ABAAC again this week, and this song hits me many times. In this time of my life it fits very good. I'm always wondering...

A World of Hurt - Of course it will be on my top right now, after I got part of the song tattooed on me few days ago. Now it will always be with me. Every time I'll get the feelings this song does to me I'm gonna listen to it and look at my arm and smile. An optimistic and also part cynical smile. That's what life's all about.

A Blessing And A Curse - Hearing it out of context has totally turned me around on this song
When I Ran Off And Left Her - I've been singing this one everywhere I go
Go-Go Boots - My current Facebook status has a quote from this one
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

Too Much Sex- I've been listening to PD a lot lately and this one always makes me smile. Plus it always makes me listen to the Stones Some Girls son I can hear Far Away Eyes which I consider a kindred song to TMS.

Something's Got to Give- Not sure why but the lyrics are great.

Ghost To Most- because it might be my favorite Cooley lyric and it gets stuck in my head.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

Steve McQueen - Why the hell not???
Mercy Buckets - It's just that good.
Zip City - When isn't this on the list?

The Buford Stick - Dark horse contender for my favorite DBT song

Goode's Field Road (alternate version) - Dig the music a lot more than the BTCD version

Uncle Frank (alternate version) - Whenever I listen to the alternate GFR, this goes on next. Huge fan of The Fine Print.

Lookout Mt 3-31-04, 1st song I ever saw this band ever play
Mercy Buckets- awesome, just awesome!!

First of all, hello everybody.

1. Mercy Buckets – get chills just thinking about it. If they don't play this in Buffalo on 6/12, well there's nothing I can really do about it, but I WILL go home and play Hell No I Ain't Happy* VERY LOUDLY.

2. First Night of My Drinking – every time I hear Mr. Hood sing "As luck would have it…" it makes me laugh.

3. You've Got Another – it's everything I love about the South: beautiful, sad and defiant all at the same time.

The lack of older songs on this list doesn't mean I don't love them just as much. Over the last nine months or so that I've known about DBT, their music has almost become one long song to me. I spent the first 30 years of my life living in various parts of Dixie, and DBT is helping me deal with my very conflicted feelings about the place. Not to mention the fact that they are the best band I've ever heard in my life.

*ETA: Only because they don't have a song called Hell No I Ain't as Happy as I COULD Be.

2. Heathens
3. Pulaski

... Hmmm, didn't notice until I typed this, but I seem to be enjoying the more mellow songs as of late...

1. I Do Believe - I know Patterson wrote this song about his grandmother and knowing that i I see things in this song that remind me of my grandmother too. I'll probably always have a soft spot in my heart for this one.

2. Ghost to Most - My mp3 player randomly plays this about every 5th song it seems. Probably my favorite opening line to a song.

3. The Home Front - I respect anybody than can work the word "quagmire" into a song and not have it seem out of place.

WWW- sounds really good on my car stereo, cranked
Sandwiches for the Road- came up on my shuffle the other day, and I listened to it three straight times!

Pulaski, Would love a Cooley solo country album.
Feb 14, Have always loved the attack of this song, and it was the first song I ever heard them play live.
Outfit, Much as I'm not a massive fan of JI, he contributed my two fave songs on DD(the other being the title track). In fact these are two of my fave DBT songs, and I'm not unaware of how contradictory that sounds :D

OK after Saturday's Rock Show
Sounds Better In a Song and Your Daddy Hates Me. I have been chasing those songs for 7 years and I heard both of them back to back.
Used to Be a Cop because I watched Shonna lay that bass line down the whole song. That could easily be an outtake on Black and Blue

Pulaski ( love the story and backing vocals)
Everybody Needs Love ( it is a strong push by the band to make it a big song so I have head it live a bunch on this tour & the fans have been doing a great job singing along!)
Goode's field road ( it was killer at the Chicago show)
