Best song by album

Post by Iowan »

I think this was done back on 9B, but it's fun and sparks a lot of debate, so let's do it again. Just go with each album and pick the song you think is the best.

Gangstabilly: Living Bubba
Pizza Deliverance: One of These Days
Southern Rock Opera: Zip City
Decoration Day: Marry Me
The Dirty South: Goddamn Lonely Love
A Blessing and a Curse: World of Hurt
Brighter Than Creation's Dark: A Ghost to Most
The Big To-Do: Birthday Boy
Go-Go Boots: Mercy Buckets

Final tally per songwriter:
Cooley: 5
Hood: 3
Isbell: 1

I agree with you on 5 of 9. Agree on first three, then:

DD: Outfit
TDS: Where the Devil Don't Stay
ABAAC: Space City (would have gone with World of Hurt until seeing Secret to Happy Ending and its backstory on this song)
BTC: A Ghost to Most
TBTD: 4th Night of Drinking
Go-GO Books: Mercy Buckets

I see a defining moment in DBT fandom since TSTAHE.

Folks will say, I liked Space City before I knew the backstory. 8-)

DD - Outfit
TDS - Cottonseed
ABAAC - Gravity's Gone
BTCD - Self-Destructive Zones
TBTD - Drag the Lake
GGB - Where's Eddie

DD is definitely the hardest one to pick a song from. I also seem to like Cooley's songs more than I realised.

Among the Shonna tunes I like that the best to. It doesn't see the mix anymore either. Same with Huston and Purgatory Line. Over the course of time I thought those were actually fairly good songs that don't get pulled out at all.

The Good Rev. is sneaking in an extra song by including TFP! Foul! :) I say we make him choose between LLT and Uncle Frank for Pizza -- I spent five minutes going back and forth on that one, he should too! :)

If DBT are gonna call GGB their "11th" album, might as well use all of them:

PD: Love Like This
AAW: Don't Be In Love Around Me
SRO: Zip City
DD: Heathens
TDS: Carl Perkins' Cadillac
ABAAC: Gravity's Gone
BTCD: The Opening Act
TFP: When the Well Runs Dry
TBTD: Birthday Boy
GGB: Cartoon Gold if we're talking originals, Everybody Needs Love if covers qualify.

Hood: 4
Cooley: 6
Isbell: 1

I say that because Brad Morgan plays drums on TFP version, it is completely appropriate to vote for it. It is the superior version of the song. But if I had to choose between the PD version of Uncle Frank or Love Like This, I'd vote for LLT. Much tougher choice if I had to choose between LLT and TFP version of Uncle Frank.

Southern Rock Opera (Disc 2) - Let There Be Rock
Decoration Day - Outfit

The Fine Print - Goode’s Field Road Alternate
The Big To-Do - After The Scene Dies
Go-Go Boots - Mercy Buckets
